Liane Hornsey, HR director, Google

Hornsey started her career outside HR. She has a commercial background in sales and marketing and then moved into change management. "I had no desire to work in HR whatsoever," she says. "I moved into it because a company I worked for wanted someone to work on organisational change and transition. That transition was about making the company more organisationally focused and I was in sales and marketing so they pulled me to be an internal consultant." Hornsey then got involved with organisational design and HR, followed by a move into the function proper in 1992. "HR here at Google is genuinely different from anywhere else," she says. "I have worked in some young and funky environments, in dot-com, and in the music industry. It's all about creativity and innovation here. It's about trying to do stuff that's different for our people, so we hire people from an HR point of view who we think can be innovative." "One of the things this organisation does very differently to others is that we put a lot of energy into the front end. Many of our managers - at all levels - spend a significant amount of time hiring. We hire by consensus, and the reason for this is that if we hire somebody, we want to keep them."

Nandita Gurjar Senior Vice President Group Head of Human Resources

Nandita was appointed the Head of Infosys Human Resources in 2007. With over 1,00,000 employees, she is focused on making Infosys, the preferred choice of global talent. Earlier, Nandita established and headed the Human Resources department at Infosys BPO. She was instrumental in scaling up the HR department as the business grew to US$ 250 million with 16,000 employees, five centers in India and six global centers. Nandita joined Infosys in 1999 and founded the Learning and Development unit to implement learning and training effectiveness and set benchmarks for growth and development. Nandita is often invited to speak on HR strategy, workforce management and business leadership. She has addressed many prestigious forums such as Great Place to Work, Conference Board, the World Bank and others. Nandita has been honored for her contributions to HR and leadership. She won the Human Capital Business Leader of the Year award by the Singapore Society of Human Resource Management. The HR practices she has instituted have been recognized by international forums such as American Society for Training & Development, Workforce Optima, among others.
