Justin MacDonald Memorial Road Hockey Tournament Tournament Rules Games will be played 3-on-3 (not including the goalies). Games will be 30 minutes long, played in two 15-minute halves. Teams will switch ends at half time. The game will be supervised by one official who will call the game at his or her discretion. Any foul or penalty (hand pass, high sticking the ball, etc.) will be penalized by loss of possession and the offending team retreating to half. Substitutions can happen on the fly but play will be stopped if there are too many players on the court. The offending team will lose possession. Sticks must remain below your shoulder at all times. Any act deemed to be violent or inappropriate will result in immediate and permanent suspension from the tournament (decided by tournament committee). If a ball rolls out of play, possession will be given to the opposing team at the spot where it went out of bounds. Face-offs are only at the start of each half and following goals. If a goalie covers the ball, players from the opposing team are required to back off a few steps to allow the goalie to play the ball to a teammate. Tie games will be decided by a shootout of 3 players per side. Tie shootouts are extended round by round until a winner is decided. Teams are given 2 points for a win, and one point for a shootout loss. After the preliminary round teams will be seeded and single game elimination playoffs will begin. A tie in points will be broken by a greater number of goals scored. Further tiebreakers will be the team with the least goals against and finally the team with the most money raised. There are prizes for the champions and runners-up of both divisions.
