CASE SCENARIO B:
The competency profile of the Manager of any Conventional Business Organization and Construction Organization shares most of the similar competencies. Personal, business, interpersonal, management and ethical competencies like honesty, punctuality, confidence, leadership, personal relations, decision making, knowledge of business, clear thinking, empowerment, negotiation, presentation skills, communication skills, cooperative behaviour, coordination, professionalism, attention to details, judgment, human resource management etc are the key competencies. However there are some other competencies which can differentiate the job of a Manager either related to Business Organization or Construction Organization. For example the Manager of a food and beverages company has different tasks regarding their products. On the other hand a Construction Company is a different field though it is also a part of Business Sector. Its tasks and goals are different from a company of food and beverages. A manager of food and beverages company has to deal a large number of customers and has to fulfill the variety of demands with a single product. For this a strong human psychology understanding is needed which helps to figured out the demands and likings of majority. Creativity, customer focus, entrepreneurial skills, developing product strategies and promotional planning, managing the positioning of existing brands are the important competencies. Based on market trends, he introduces new products or adds features to existing products and here lies the creativity and entrepreneurial skills. While a construction manager has to deal a certain number of clients. He should have a deep understanding about the construction processes and should have the ability to encounter problems. Identification and planning of resources, possession of a designated level of technical engineering skills or knowledge and the ability to keep up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise, knowledge of handling equipments related to construction are important. On concluding we can say that since both of the fields have their own technical requirements (as mentioned above) which makes the job of the manager (other than Construction Company) different from construction manager, so their respective competencies are somehow different too. And because of these differences the competency profile, in a way, are also different.
