Chapter 7
Soil pollution control & its Management Strategies
There are many factors which control the soil pollution.

Common management strategy:

1. It includes the limited use of fertilizers and pesticides. Because excessive use of fertilizers & pesticides it reduced soil fertility ,porosity, aerations, water holding capacity. 2. When nutrient content is high in soil by cultivation this contents is stable form. 3. In case of acidic soils the treatment by lime. 4. In alkaline soil the selection of high pH tolerant crop cultivation. 5. Use the organic manure in soil it enrich soil fertility ,porosity, aeration, water holding capacity.

In case of solid waste the management requires:

1.When we use municipal solid waste in agriculture purpose it should be segregated but I see that the plastics & other harmful material not separated. which is persist long run in soil. 2.Awareness programme must be done. Only bio degradable materials must be use. 3.In case of non biodegradable materials we manage in the following way -reduction ,recycles, reuse, land filling, incinerations & energy generations.

Cement factory side land management:

Fine cement dust must be control because when it coming with water it blocks the soils.

Management of fly ash & we use it in beneficial purpose

1. To explore the possibility of using coal ash as soil modifier and nutrients supplier for upgrading soil for its use in agriculture and to improve the productivity. 2. These coal ash contains micro and macro nutrients and also improves physical and morphological properties of the soil.

3. Crops, such as wheat, paddy, maize sunflower, sugar cane, tomato, potato, cabbage, pea,
carrot, onion, okara, berseem, aromatic and medicinal plants have been grown in wasteland soil and soil treated with coal ash.

4. These crops were tested to check the consumer acceptability / toxic elements uptake and it
was found heavy metals uptake are within the permissible limits and meet the food quality standards.

5. Usage of coal ash for wasteland development improves the soil fertility, enhances the plant
growth, increases the crop yield and saves irrigation water without affecting the food quality.

Utilizations of fly ash1. Fly ash use as Road Construction:- Save the top soil of the road from soil degradation. 2. Use as Agriculture purpose.fly ash mixed with soil and use agriculture purpose. 3. Use in cement factory. 4. Use as brick. 5. Green belt development. We use it as a insecticide for safe the vegetables.
