The incorporations of computers and microprocessors has brought great changes to the instrumentation used for testing textiles. Their use falls into two main categories: Recording and calculation of results and automation of the test procedure. Both of these uses may be found in the most advanced instruments.
Testing machine
Recording of Results:
In these applications the computer is usually connected via an analogue to digital converter to an existing instrument from where it collects the data that would previously have been written down on paper by the operator. The advantages of such an installation are as follows:
Ability to Calculation:
The ability to perform all the intermediate calculations together with any statistical calculations in the case of multiple tests.
Printed Output:
The ability to give a final neatly printed report which may be given directly to a customer. It is important, however, to be aware of the fact that the precision of the basic instrument is unchanged and it depends on, among other things, the preparation and loading of the sample into the instrument by the operator and the setting of any instrumental parameters such as speed or range.
Scanning Electron Microscopy X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS) Micro Glider Gas Chromatography-mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Analyser Rotawash Colour Fastness Testers Standard Refrence Washing Machine Standard Tumble Dryer
Use of computer at various management levels in Industry. Use of spread sheets to calculate, Present and Analyze engineering data. Use of different Statistical methods to analyze engineering data. Use of Minitab (TM) software . Use of different mathematical techniques to solve engineering problems. Use of Mat Lab (TM) software.
The overall course objective is to provide the student with the background to understand and work withcomputer systems for data acquisition, analysis, display and control of Textile processes.
What is CAD/CAM?
CAD is the contraction which stands for Computer Aided Design and CAM is the Computer Aided Manufacturing. This term means different things to different people involved in designing, manufacturing and mechanical engineering.CAD or Computer Aided Design has brought a revolution in the Textile industry. The time consuming and cumbersome process of textile designing has been made easier by CAD. Now thoughtfull and innovative designs are available to the textile designers and textile manufacturers at the click of a mouse.
Almost all industry sectors are using CAD in their designing departments. CAD can help to draw textile designs for textile industry. We should not confuse CAD only with drawings. CAD covers many aspects of designing like design calculations, dataanalysis and simulations. Commonly used software used for CAD are AUTO CAD, MSVISIO, Smart Draw etc.
