Respect and Affection for Environment. Name: Class: Date: I] Introduction: 1. As all we know, in general, environment refers to the surroundings of an obj ect, or the Natural environment, all living and non-living things that occur nat urally on Earth. The whole system runs on a life cycle. Life cycle depends upon living organism and their habits, which coordinates each other in many ways. Objects like stone, water, air, and so on, though they are non-living, we cannot imagine life witho ut them. So we can say living and non-living things forms an environment and thi s environment provide an identity to our life. How? Let us see, environment of e arth, environment of mars, and environment of moon, all these things identified and distinguished due to the surrounding environment. Therefore, we are talking about Natural environment obviously. We can understand environment by following properties: Complete ecological units that function as natural systems without massive human intervention, including all vegetation, microorganisms, soil, rocks, atmosphere and natural phenomena that occur within their boundaries.

Universal natural resources and physical phenomena that lack clear-cut boundarie s, such as air, water, and climate, as well as energy, radiation, electric charg e, and Magnetism, not originating from human activity. 2. Respect and affection are the things that are mostly and widely respected and yes, expected by everyone to do to them by others. However, we rarely do it to others. Respect is part of social etiquette whereas affection is feeling. Respec t is forceful and affection is auto-inspired from heart. 3. Now why we need to distinguish these things? It is because we greedy people a re looting natural resources for fulfillment of luxurious needs. We indirectly a re destroying our own identity. At this most important turn for humanity, we are at the junction which way to choose. Way to pain and destroy or way to repair a nd happyness. We must and have to follow the second one. No option is there if we want to live a healthy and clean life. II] A Lesson from child psychologist on how to teach to respect the environment to a child: Respect the Environment Kenneth N. Condrell, Ph.D. Child Psychologist Many parents groan when they learn that our society expects them to teach one mo re lesson to children. Parents are already overextended with all the lessons the y have to teach in order to raise good kids. Now, here is one more: teaching chi ldren to live green.

My reaction to this expectation was similar. I thought, "How much can parents be expected to do?" However, I soon realized that the principles of green living a re consistent with a major lesson all parents want their children to learnrespect . I want to share a real-life experience that will help make clear what Im saying . A few years ago, I was asked to introduce the "Sesame Street" gang to about 1, 000 kids at a very large and beautiful theater. It was a thrill for me to stand onstage and hear children roar with joy as I introduced Big Bird and all the oth er characters they have fallen in love with. After the first show ended, I stayed in the theater and watched the staff get re ady for the late afternoon show. I was not prepared for what I saw next. As the last family left the theater, a small army of staff rushed into the theater carr ying rakes. They were literally raking debris from between the rows of seats. Ca ndy wrappers, popcorn containers, cups, napkins, plastic ware, paper dishes, gum wrappers and leftover drinks were piled high in the main aisles as each worker raked his assigned rows. It was all piled into giant garbage bags. Then came the giant garbage bags that the workers filled with all the debris the y had collected. At that moment, I was torn. I was filled with joy seeing so many parents taking the time to make their children happy and spend time with them. I was also dishe artened that parents were not setting a good example by having their children ca rry their garbage to the containers all over the theater. Kids learn by example, and the parents that day had let their children down by u nwittingly teaching them that its OK to leave your environment a mess and make ot hers pick up after you. Obviously, the theater was prepared for this kind of tho ughtlessness because they had purchased dozens of rakes along with the largest g arbage bags I had ever seen. Teaching children to respect their environment shouldnt involve tons of extra wor k for parents. Here are some tips for helping your children learn this lesson: Talk to your children about how we not only live in a house that we need to take care of but a world that we need to taken care of. This means we need to take c are of all the living creatures in the world and to keep our parks, lakes and ri vers clean. Make your next trip to the zoo an opportunity to make your children more aware o f how zoos are saving many kinds of animals from disappearing. Point out thoughtless acts as you see them so your children become aware of the importance of keeping the environment safe and clean. Let them know that throwin g cups from a moving car, dumping the contents of an ashtray in a parking lot or leaving garbage on a picnic table is not helping keep the world clean. Remind t hem that this kind of behavior makes more work for people who have to clean up a fter those who litter. Teach your children to stop squashing all the bugs they see. Remind them that th ese living creatures are part of our world. Help your children set up bird feeders to help birds survive through the winter. Read picture books to your young children about keeping our world clean and safe . Buy a plant for each child that they can take care of either inside or outside t he house. Make sure to let them pick out their own plants. If you go fishing with your children, teach them to catch and release. Explain w hy it makes no sense to let a fish die if no one needs it for food. Teach your children to turn off lights in empty rooms and how to sort out all th e reusable containers for garbage day. Explain why this is important. To summarize, all parents want their children to grow up respecting others and r especting the world they live in. Teaching children to live green is just anothe r way of teaching a lesson that many good parents are already teaching their chi

ldren.

III] Words by Great Souls: This degradation which now lead to alarm a high degree of danger to our environm ent and in eventually to our lives. The process degradation started long ago whe n Human society stepped on with wheels and started to build up factories. Here are great words of concern by great souls, which are self explicit to show the threats to life.

"Earth provides enough to satisfy every man s need, but not every man s greed." - Mohandas K. Gandhi quoted in EF Schumacher, Small is Beautiful. "One Touch of nature makes the whole world kin." William Shakespeare (1564-1616), Troilus and Cressida. "When the well s dry, we know the worth of water." - Benjamin Franklin, (1706-1790), Poor Richard s Almanac. IV] To Sum with Problem Statement and Personal Pledge An essential problem of the 21st century is world pollution. Currently the envir onment is so much contaminated that urgent measures should be taken. The single individual cannot be blamed for the world pollution; however every person should take care of his or her habitat. In addition, it is vital that environmental is sues should be treated internationally. Lately, many presentations, conferences and international summits are held regar ding waste treatment, recycling, soil and water contamination. For sure, joint e fforts and consolidation can only help in the mutual war towards the environment al disaster, which is going on. For instance, governments should offer support t o companies and organizations, involved in manufacturing, industry or agricultur e in order to find environment friendly approaches. These could be special law r egulations, recycling programs, helping courses in order to implement ISO certif icates and many more. However, the influence of individuals over environment should not be ignored. If we do not confess that our planet is our home, we will never be able to take ad equately care of it. We have to contribute every day to the preservation of natu re and environment. For example, always remember to save energy by switching off lamps, computers and everything that we do not use. Our next obligation is to s eparate waste and throw bulk only in the designated areas. Driving vehicles can also be environment friendly. For example, we have to avoid accelerating the eng ines too rapidly or using the air condition in the country, where it will be bet ter to save energy and simply open the windows. To sum up, environmental problems should be handled by local and international a uthorities also. Every single person should take care of environment and we have to bring up our children to be conscious citizens of a clean and preserved plan et. Environmental Pledge I will do my part to protect planet Earth. I will make an effort to educate myse lf and others about recycling and the environment. I will lend a hand to the env ironment by reducing, reusing, recycling, buying recycled products, conserving e nergy and water and protecting my air and water. In this way I will be Making Ev ery Day Earth Day.
