Section A [ 28 marks] Answer all questions. Jawab semua soalan. 1. A student carries out an experiment to investigate the relationship between the object distance, u and the image distance, v, of a convex lens with focal length, f,. The apparatus is set up as shown in Diagram 1.1

The object distance is fixed at u = 34 cm, 30 cm, 26 cm, 20 cm and 16 cm. The convex lens is placed at the zero mark on the scale of the metre rule when the image distance, v, is measured. Diagram 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 showed the end part of metre rule when the image distance, v, is measured.

(a) For the experiment described above, identify: (i) The manipulated variable [1 mark] (ii) The responding variable [1 mark] (iii) The constant variable [1 mark]

(b) Based on diagram 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6, determine the magnitude of v, and , when u is equal to 34 cm, 30 cm, 26 cm, 20 cm and 16 cm. Tabulate the values of u, v, and in the space below.

[6 marks] (c) On the graph paper, plot a graph of against . [5 marks] (d) Based on your graph, state the relationship between and . [1 mark] (e) State a precaution that should be taken to obtain the accurate result. [1 mark] 2. A student carries out an experiment to determine the relationship between height, h of the raised end of an inclined track and the acceleration, a of a trolley as it moves freely down the inclined track. A ticker-timer and ticker tapes are used to determine the acceleration of the trolley in this experiment. The results of the experiment are shown in the graph of a against h in Diagram 2.

h/m

(a) State the relationship between a and h. .. [1 mark] (b) Determine the value of h when a = 3.2 ms-2 Show on the graph in Diagram 2 how you determine the value of h. ... [3 marks] (c) The gradient, m of the graph is given by the formula m= where g is the gravitational acceleration and l is the length of the inclined runway. (i) Calculate the gradient, m of the graph. Show on the graph how you determine m.

[3 marks] (ii) Using the formula m= and the value of m in (c) (i), calculate the value of g. [use l = 2.0 m]

[2 marks] (d) The experiment is repeated using another inclined runway of length, l = 3.0 m. the lifted end of the inclined runway is fixed at a height, h = 0.4m. by using the formula a= and the value of g in (c) (ii), calculate the acceleration, a of the trolley.

[2 marks]
(e) State one precaution that should be taken during the experiment.
