in 2006, won a gold at the South Asian Games n a bronze in the 2006 Doha Asian Games and was honoured with the Arjuna award in 2007. Rahul Banerjee : Won several Gold medals at the World Cup Archery in 2008, 2009 & 2010 also won Individual Gold Medal in Asian Grand Prix in the year 2009&2010. In the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, he won Gold Medal in Men's Individual recurve event. Tarundeep Rai: Created history by becoming the first Indian archer to win a silver in the men's individual archery event in the 2010 Asian Games. Chekrovolu Swuro: Represented India in the 2002 and 2006 Asian Games held at Busan, South Korea and Doha, Qatar respectively in archery events. Joined the Indian Army in 2002 through the Gorkha regiments. Baljinder Singh(50km): Trained under Ramakrishnan Gandhi's tutelage at Sports Authority of India, Bangalore. Baljinder qualified for the Olympics in the 20 km managing the 'A' standard with 1:22:12 in Nomi.

Gurmeet Singh(20 km): Current Indian record holder in this category with an 'A' qualification standard (1:22:30). Set this record at the Indian Grand Prix in Patiala in May 2011.Created a new National Games record of 1:23.26 in Ranchi in February 2011. Won silver in 2000 National Junior Championships. Irfan Kolothum Thodi (20km): Qualified for London Olympics on the second and final day of the IAAF World Race Walking Cup at Saransk, Russia in May 2012. Became the third Indian to qualify for this in 'A' standard of 1:22.30 in his 19th place finish. Made waves with an outstanding performance in the recent Federation Cup at Patiala, clocked a personal best of 1:22:09. Marathon: Ram Singh Yadav: First Indian to qualify for marathon at the Olympics in 36 years. Booked his berth for the London Games by winning the Mumbai Marathon in January 2012. Belongs to the Army Sports Institute in Pune, had finished a lowly 15th in 2:39:23 at the 2010 Asian Games in China. Discus: Vikas Gowda: In 2011 he came up with his season's best effort of 64.05m at Daegu, to become the first Indian male athlete to qualify for the final of World Athletics Championships. The seventh place finish at his third World Championships. Personal best is 64.96m set in 2007. Shot put: Om Prakash Karhana: Crowned Asian champion in November 2009 in China. Holds the Indian national record in shot put of 20.69 meters which he achieved in May 2012 at Szombathely, Hungary. Only the third Indian to break 20m mark. Triple jump: Renjith Maheshwary: His leap of 16.85m at the16th Federation Cup Senior National Athletics Championships in Patiala won him gold. Won bronze at the Delhi CWG Games 2010. Only Indian athlete to win gold at the Asian Grand Prix in Chonburi, Thailand in May 2012. Women: 800m: Tintu Luka: The first school girl from Kerala to be picked for an Asian Games. The 14th Indian athlete to qualify for the London Olympics. Badminton Men's singles: Parupalli Kashyap: Defeated Chetan Anand in the 2007 National Games to win the gold medal. The world number 23, became a household name when he won the bronze medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Played a key role in Indias winning of the silver medal in the mixed team category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In 2011, he reached the finals of the Senior National Badminton Championship. Women's singles: Saina Nehwal: India's ace shuttler, a Khel Ratna award winner, helped India get team bronze in 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Won five tournaments, including India Open Grand Prix Gold, Indonesian Open, Singapore Open and Hong Kong Super Series and clinched bronze medal at the Asian Badminton Championship in 2010. First Indian woman to win badminton gold at the Commonwealth Games 2010. Currently ranked no. 5. Women's doubles: Jwala Gutta: First Indian to qualify for two events mixed doubles and womens doubles - for the Olympics. Gutta, who is of mixed Indian and Chinese descent, is currently ranked 17 in the womens doubles and 14 in the mixed doubles categories. Won gold medal in womens doubles in the Commonwealth Games 2010. Ashwini Ponnappa: In 2010, she earned accolades and fame when she won the gold medal in the womens doubles category partnering Gutta, in the Commonwealth Games. Won the National Badminton Championships title twice in doubles event in 2006 and 2007. Also won gold medal partnering Indias V Diju at the 2010 South Asian Games in the mixed doubles event. Again teamed up with Gutta to win the bronze medal at the World Badminton Championships in 2011. Mixed doubles: Valiyaveetil Diju: Four-time National mixed doubles champion. Won Indias first mixed doubles Grand Prix win in 2008 Bitburger Open Championship in Germany. Diju-Gutta pair was also the runner up at Indian Open in 2009. Diju-Guttas pair was the first Indians to enter the quarterfinals of World Badminton Championship in 2009. By winning the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix in 2009, the duo became the first Indian mixed doubles pair to win a Grand Prix Gold title. Boxing Men: Devendro Singh (light flyweight): Booked Olympic berth in 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championship in Baku.The young Devendro has earned couple of 'Best Boxer' awards in the national circuit during his short career so far. Shiva Thapa (bantamweight): Youngest Indian boxer to make the cut for the Olympics by reaching the final of the Asian qualifiers in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 11, 2012. 2012 - Gold (Bantamweight) - Asian Olympic Qualifiers, Astana 2011 - Gold (Bantamweight) - Belgrade Winner Tournament, Belgrade Jai Bhagwan (lightweight): Qualified for the London Olympics by reaching quarterfinals of the 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championship in Baku. He sealed his ticket to 2012 London Olympics by winning a bronze at the 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Vijender Singh (middleweight): First Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympic Games for a third successive time after reaching the semifinals of the Asian Olympic qualifiers in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 8, 2012. Won a bronze medal in Beijing Games in 2008. Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee 2009. Won gold in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.

Hockey Men: Ignace Tirkey: Made his international debut in February 2001 against Belgium. He was a part of the Indian team that participated in the Athens Olympic in 2004, where India finished seventh. He is best known for his brilliant goal which he hit between Pakistan's ace striker Sohail Abbas's legs in the final minutes of 2003 Asia Cup to give India the winning lead after both teams were locked at 2-2. Dharamvir Singh: Is a young forward who is expected to make it big at the highest level. His last international appearance was during 2010 Asian Games. Sandeep Singh: India's former skipper is a penalty corner specialist. Played for India for the first time in 2004. He is a well known drag-flicker. Under his captaincy, India clinched the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2009, defeating Malaysia in the finals at Ipoh. Bharat Chettri (captain, goalkeeper): One of the most enduring goalkeepers India has ever produced. Chetri was adjudged best goalkeeper of the 1997 Junior Nationals. He was recently recalled for the national training camp after the 2010 World Cup. Manpreet Singh : A midfielder in the team, Joined the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Academy in Jalandhar in 2005. His first big success came in 2008 when he led his team on his international debut in Junior Asia Cup held in Myanmar. Sardara Singh (vice-captain): The centre half specialist became the youngest player to ever captain the India national hockey team in the 2008 Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament. He was adjudged the Best Player of Tournament in the 2012 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, where India won the Bronze. he also bagged the Player of the Tournament award in the 2012 Summer Olympics Qualifiers, where India won the Gold V.R.Raghunath: This Karnataka boy has got the potential to covert penalty corners. VR Raghunath was dropped from the national team before the 2010 World Cup in 2010. But he came back on the back of a brilliant performance in the Bhopal senior nationals last year.

Gurbaj Singh: Hes an emerging match winner. He usually plays at right-half. He made his senior international debut at the Doha Asian Games and since then has been a fixture in the all India's assignments. He won a bronze (2007) and Silver (2008) in the Azlan Shah Cup and gold at the 2007 Asia Cup. Tushar Khandker: With 219 international caps, he is one of the most experienced player in the squad. Being one of the senior players in the squad, there is added responsibility on the experienced Khandker, but the man from Jhansi is up for the challenge. S.K.Uthappa: Made his international debut against South Africa in 2012 during the first match of the Karbonn Cup Hockey five-match Test series. Based on his performances against South Africa, Uthappa was selected to play in the 2012 Olympic Qualification Tournament. He went on to play in all 6 matches in the tournament scoring one goal in the first match against Singapore. P.R.Sreejesh (goalkeeper): Made his international debut in 2004 with India's junior team against Australia. He had played a key role in India winning the 2010 World Cup opener against arch-rival Pakistan in Delhi. Such was his confidence that was fielded for the Azlan Shah cup in 2010 ahead of experienced Bharat Chetri. Danish Mujtaba: Made his international debut in 2009 under coach Jose Brasa. This talented Allahabad player is a product of Delhi based Air India-SAI Hockey Academy and has attended a training program at the Australian Institute of Sport. Shivendra Singh: The current center forward of the Indian team started his career from SAI Sefai, Uttar Pradesh. He scored two superb field goals in a thrilling match against Pakistan in 2010 Commonwealth Games which India won by 7-4. Gurwinder Singh Chandi: Made his senior debut in the Australia 4-Nations in 2008. He won the Silver at the 17th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia. He was part of the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup as well. Sowmarpet Sunil: Starred in India's brilliant performance against Pakistan in Azlan shah Cup. He played his first senior international at Chennai in the 2007 Asia Cup, which India won in 2007. He also won a Silver at the 2008 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia. His career came to a halt due to injury in the run up to the 2010 World Cup. Birendra Lakra: Scored the first goal in India's stupendous victory in the final game of the Olympic Hockey Qualifying Tournament against France. He has represented India in the Test series against South Africa in 2012 and SAAF game at Dhaka in 2010. Judo Women: Garima Chaudhary (63kg): The only Indian judoka to qualify for the upcoming London Olympics. Currently ranked at 94 in the 63kg category in the International Judo Federation (IJF) list and is the only Indian to grace the coveted list. Won a gold in 2007 Junior Asian Championships, followed by a silver and a bronze in 2008 and

2009 respectively. She has also bagged gold in 2006 South Asian Games and a bronze in 2009 Martial Art Games. Won bronze in senior national championships in 2012. Rowing Men: Swarn Singh Virk (single sculls): Secured his spot in the upcoming London Olympics by winning his event at the FISA Olympic Continental Qualification Regatta for Asia in Chung Ju, Korea. This will be the maiden Olympics appearance for the Jharkhand National Games gold medallist. Sandeep Kumar(lightweight double sculls): Will team up with Manjeet Singh to participate in the lightweight men's double sculls event of rowing at the upcoming London Olympics. Sandeep and Manjeet made it to the London Olympics by virtue of their thirdplace finish at the FISA Olympic Continental Qualification Regatta for Asia in Chung Ju, Korea. Manjeet Singh (lightweight double sculls): Manjeet Singh from Chandigarh will represent India's challenge in the lightweight men's double sculls event of rowing along with Sandeep Kumar. London will be Manjeet's second appearance in the Olympics, having rowed in the same event at the Beijing Games in 2008. Shooting Men Abhinav Bindra (10m air rifle): Won the first and only individual Olympic gold medal at 2008 Beijing Games and at Zagreb in 2006. Was the youngest Indian participant at the 2000 Sydney Games. Bindra won Gold in the pairs event and Silver in the individual event respectively at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games. Bindra is recipient of the Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Padma Bhushan . Gagan Narang (10m air rifle, 50m rifle prone, 50 m rifle 3 positions): 2011 Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee bagged bronze medal at the Munich World Shooting Championships in August, 2010. Won two silvers at Guangzhou Asian Games in 2010 after winning a bagful of gold medals at 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.Won a massive five gold medals in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006. Joydeep Karmakar (50m rifle prone): World No. 58 won the quota to be in the Olympics in the first place on the basis of his consistency. 2010 - Silver (50m Rifle Prone) - ISSF World Cup, Sydney. Vijay Kumar (10m air pistol and 25m rapid fire): Multiple Commonwealth Games gold medalist, earned an Olympic quota place when he clinched the silver medal at the shooting World Cup in Fort Benning, US in May, 2011. Sanjeev Rajput (50m rifle 3 position): Book a berth for London Olympics after winning the gold at ISSF World Cup in Changwon, Korea in April, 2011. Recipient of Arjuna award in 2010, he won silver (Pairs) at Guangzhou Asian Games. Manavjit Singh Sandhu (trap): The veteran shooter won gold at the Asian Shooting Championships in Doha in January, 2012.Was awarded Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2006, won the gold at the ISSF World Shooting Championships along with silver in Asian Games and a bronze in Commonwealth Games. Was conferred with Arjuna Award in 1998 won Commonwealth Games gold in Kuala Lumpur the same year. Ronjan Sodhi (Double trap): In 2011, Sodhi became the first Indian to defend ISSF World Cup Final title when he clinched gold in Al Ain (UAE). He had captured the coveted title the previous year (2010) in Izmir (Turkey). The Arjuna awardee had a fine year in 2011 during which he touched the pinnacle in world ranking too. Women Shagun Chowdhary (trap): First Indian woman trap shooter to have qualified for Olympic Games. She secured the London Games quota in September 2011 at the Belgrade World Championships, where she finished fourth.2008 - Silver (Trap) - Asian Championships, Jaipur. 2008 - Bronze (Trap) - Asian Championships, Delhi Rahi Sarnobat (25m pistol): Booked a berth for the 2012 London Olympics by winning bronze at the ISSF World Cup at Fort Benning, US in May 2011. The young pistol shooter came to reckoning after winning a gold and a silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Annu Raj Singh (10m air pistol): Bagged silver medal at the ISSF World Cup in Fort Benning, USA. Has won gold (pairs) at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. And more recently she won a bronze at the Asian Shooting Championships in Doha. Heena Sidhu (10m air pistol): 2010 Commonwealth Games medallist was approved by International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) in April this year after National Rifle Association of India's (NRAI) requested for exchange of quota.The young shooter has a World Cup silver, Commonwealth Games gold and silver and an Asian Games silver to her credit. Swimming Men Ullalmath Gagan (1500m freestyle): Was granted an Olympic berth in swimming when the world body FINA sprung a surprise by choosing him in the men's 1,500m freestyle under the 'Universality' quota. Ironically, Gagan had not touched any qualification standard, while all other had Olympic Selection Timing. Under the 'Universality' quota, participation in the World Championships is a must and Gagan had taken part in the 800m freestyle in that event held in Shanghai in July last year which ensured his qualification. He had clocked 8:21.23 there.

Table Tennis Men's singles: Soumyajit Ghosh: An impressive performance in the Asian Olympic Qualification helped him book his berth to London Olympics. Hes the youngest Indian paddler to join the Indian contingent at the Olympics.2012 - Gold (Singles) Junior and Youth National Championships. 2010 - Bronze (Mixed Doubles) - World Junior Table Tennis Championships. 2008 - Gold (Doubles) Commonwealth Youth Games Women's singles: Ankita Das: Ranked 4th in India, she became the first the sole Indian woman paddler to confirm the London Olympics ticket. She registered a hard fought victory over her Indian counterpart K Shamini in the South Asian qualifiers to seal the berth. In 2007, she claimed the cadet girls' singles bronze medal at the 13th Asian junior table tennis championships at Heongseong, South Korea. Tennis Men Singles: Somdev Devvarman: Won India's first ever gold in men's singles at the Asian Games in 2010 went on to win doubles gold in the same tournament. He won the gold medal at 2010 Commonwealth Games. The 27-yeal old boy has been awarded a wild card entry to participate in men's singles event, in London Olympics. Doubles: Mahesh Bhupathi: Has12 Grand Slam titles to his credit. He became the first Indian to win a Grand Slam tournament in 1997. In 2006, won the Australian Open mixed doubles only to join the elite group of eight tennis players who have achieved a career Grand Slam in mixed doubles. In 1999, Bhupathi and Leander became the first doubles team to reach the finals of all four Grand Slams, the first time such a feat has been achieved in an Open era and the first time since 1952. In the same year, they became the world no. 1 doubles team. Bhupathi also won the US Open mixed doubles with Ai Sugiyama of Japan. In 2009, Bhupathi and his partner Sania Mirza won the mixed doubles title at the Australian Open. The duo repeated the success during the 2012 French Open. Rohan Bopanna: He is known for setting an example of Indo-Pak camaraderie on tennis circuit by pairing up with Pakistan's Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi. He played a decisive role in India's 2010 Davis Cup triumph over Brazil, taking India back to the World Group for the first time since 1998. In 2008, Bopanna won the men's doubles title at the 2008 Countrywide Classic in Los Angeles. And was nominated in 2010 as a Champion for Peace by Monaco-based organization, Peace and Sport for his efforts in bridging political barriers through sports. Leander Paes: Recipient of India's highest sporting honour Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, has won seven doubles and six mixed doubles Grand Slam titles. He is the only Indian tennis player to have won a medal in Olympics (Atlanta Olympics 1996). In 1999, Bhupathi and Leander became the first doubles team to reach the finals of all four Grand Slams, the first time such a feat has been achieved in the open era and the first time since 1952. In the same year, they became the world no. 1 doubles team. Paes won the mixed doubles events at the Australian Open and Wimbledon with Martina Navratilova, both in 2003. He completed the career Grand Slam in men's doubles after winning the Australian Open in 2012.

Vishnu Vardhan: He is one of the bright stars of Indian tennis. He bagged his first Junior Open Nationals trophy in the year 2003 and won the Men's Open Nationals in the year 2007. Amid all sweat and praise, Vishnu turned professional in 2008. In 2010, he won the bronze medal in the men's team event and also partnered Sania Mirza in the mixed doubles to ensure silver for the country in Asian Games. Women: Doubles: Sania Mirza: First Indian ever to break into the top 30 WTA rankings in singles and top 10 in doubles. Has two Grand Slam titles to her credit: the mixed doubles event at the 2009 Australian Open and the same event at 2012 French Open. She made headlines in 2003 by winning Wimbledon Championships Girls' Doubles title. In 2009, won Australian Open her first Grand Slam title partnering with Mahesh Bhupathi and repeated the success during the 2012 French Open. Rushmi Chakravarth: A wild card entry to 2012 London Olympics along with Sania Mirza to play in women's doubles. She is credited with a record 45 ITF Women's Circuit titles, the highest number set by any Indian female player. Rushmi won the doubles bronze medal with Sania Mirza2010 Commonwealth Games (New Delhi). Mixed doubles: Leander Paes and Sania Mirza. Weightlifting Men: Katulu Ravi Kumar (69kg): The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) selected to him to represent the country in the London Olympics. India have earned the first Olympic quota place in the men's weightlifting after a gap of 12 years since the 2000 Sydney Games. He an Arjuna awardee scripted history by breaking the Commonwealth Games record after lifting a record total weight of 321 kg. Women: Ngangbam Soniya Chanu (48kg): The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) gave her nod to represent the country in the London Olympics. She missed the gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Has won many medals for her state in the junior national meets in early days of her sporting career. Yogeshwar Dutt (60kg): Made his presence felt by doing well in the Indian National Championships in 1998 and then went on to win the gold medal in the Commonwealth Championships in 2003 and at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010. Hequalified for

the 2012 Olympics by winning a silver medal at an Asian qualification tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan. He performed creditably in the Beijing Olympics and had secured the fifth place in the 2006 World championship. Sushil Kumar (66kg): Won the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. He qualified for the London Olympics by winning gold medal at the World qualifying tournament in Taiyuan (China) in April 2012. Won a gold medal at FILA 2010 World Wrestling Championships held in Moscow in September 2010 and Commonwealth Games. Narsingh Pancham Yadav (74kg): Brought in as a last-minute replacement, Narsingh Yadav stunned one and all when he won the gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Won silver in 2012 at Indian Wrestling Grand Prix. He had been inducted into the team after Sumit failed a dope test before the Games Women's freestyle: Geeta Phogat (55kg): First female Indian wrestler to qualify for the Olympics, won India's first ever gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. She created a sort of record by winning five gold medals for the country in international championships in 2009.
