Band Kennywood Fall Fantasy Sat., August 25, 8pm Kennywood This will be the high schools first official public performance of the year. If youre looking to squeeze in one last Kennywood day this summer, this would be a great day to do it!

Hi everyone! My name is Kathleen Heuer, and I am the liason this year to the Norwin Band Aides, the booster group for the Norwin bands. Basically, that means that I attend the meetings and let you know about the interesting and important stuff. My daughter Katie is a 6th grade alto sax, and Grace will be rockin the recorder in 3rd grade this year. Were SO excited to have your child as a beginning band student! Theres a whole lot to look forward to! This week is a great way to jump start your childs beginning band experience. Your child will become familiar with his or her new instrument and learn a few basics. I think youll find that Mr. Lippmann is one of the most dynamic and engaging teachers your child could have. Their time in the Hillcrest band room will be a lot of fun! TL; DR (Too long; didnt read): Welcome! We you! Check the website & schedule. Call me, maybe? Email is even better, especially if you want email updates & reminders.

In the meantime, I encourage you to use me as a resource. If you have any questions, shoot me an email. I might know the answer off the top of my head! Since Mr. Lippmann has nearly 400 band students, chances are Ill be able to get back to you more quickly than he can. Sadly, I cant be at camp this week to meet you and your child. I hope your child has an amazing experience at band camp this week. I know mine did! Kathleen

Take a moment to check out the calendar of events to the left. The list of Next Big Things is intended to let you know about local opportunities and performances that will enrich your childs music experience. Attending these events may earn your child Borc Bucks from Mr. Lippmann, which can then be spent on prizes and incentives to keep your child interested and engaged in music. Unless otherwise noted, all events are optional. If your child would like to attend, but you are not able to transport your child, let Kathleen know.

Check out the website! Weve created a new website for the Hillcrest band program. You can find it at http://norwininstrumentalmusic.wordpress.com. Well post updates, events, important information, and tons of resources. Its always a work in progress, so if you find something that should be posted, or have an idea for what youd like to see, email me!

Want to stay in the loop? Id like to see if theres enough interest in sending out information via email. If youd like periodic updates such as reminders of upcoming events, nearby performances and volunteer opportunities, email me at kathleenheuer@yahoo.com and let me know. That way, you wont have to rely on important messages getting crushed at the bottom of your childs backpack or instrument case. Did you know? With music in schools, students connect to each other bettergreater camaraderie, fewer fights, less racism and reduced use of hurtful sarcasm. --Eric Jensen, Arts With the Brain in Mind, 2001
