Radiograph of the thumb

The thumb, unlike other fingers, has only two phalanges: the proximal phalanx and the distal phalanx. The metacarpal connects the proximal phalanx of the thumb to the carpal bones, through the trapeze. The metacarpophalangeal joint connects the metacarpal bone to the proximal phalanx. The interphalangeal joint connects the proximal phalanx to the distal phalanx.
