An electric car is a car powered by an electric motor rather than a gasoline engine.

From the outside, you will never find out that a car is electric. Electric cars are created by converting a gasoline-powered car, and because of that it is impossible to tell. When you drive an electric car, often the only thing that clues you in to its true nature is the fact that it is nearly silent. Advantages:

- It is a good, efficient and a safe way to change fossil fuels into automotive power - They are more efficient that gasoline powered vehicles as they can be recharged from anywhere also the gasoline can be used somewhere else maybe in a better way. - the electricity used in electric cars are created by the burning of fossil fuels at power plants, not an internal-combustion engine which pollutes the air. - The new development is the charging of battery. When you stop the car then the battery charges which makes it much easier to charge and recharge batteries. It is much slower of course than a real power plug but is very effective.

- Michael Quanlu Wang of Argonne National Laboratory used computer simulation to contrast usage of electric and gasoline cars U.S. cities. The results showed that electric vehicles would reduce hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide by 98%. - Electric vehicles are "zero emissions" especially urban cities because the polluting power plants are situated far from the urban areas and therefore will improve the air quality in polluted urban areas

. FACTS

4. You can use a home power outlet to charge them! You can charge an electric car at home just like any other device. By using a 240 volt outlet like the kind that would power an electric stove. If you have an electric plug point in a garage then you would never have to pay for gas again. This doesnt make an electric carbon-neutral, and it can take a handful of hours to charge your car, but it is pretty cool to power your car at home.

3. Theyre quiet Gasoline powered vehicles make more noise than a hybrid or an electric car. This could be advantageous to people who live close to heavy-traffic areas, it could also pose some unintended consequences.

2. SUVs are going electric A SUV is a sports utility vehicle, usually known for emblematic of over-consumption and terrible gas mileage, has gotten new life with the growing popularity of electric vehicles. Car companies are starting to develop SUVs built on a car platform and reduced in weight.

1. You can do it yourself Many electric cars have been built by hobbyists and regular people who want to convert their existing car with the help of manuals and conversion kits. Some auto garages specialize in electric car conversion.
