SITE SURVEY SUMMARY SHEET

DERP-FUDS SITE NO. J09CA076800 CAMP E I N T SITE NAME: Camp Flint. LOCATION: The site is located 30 miles northeast of Sacramento in Placer County, California (Figures 1 and 2). SITE HISTORY: In 1942, the United States acquired 0.20 license acres from Southern Pacific Railroad Company; 38.00 lease acres from the City of Auburn; and, 18.60 lease acres from the 20th District Agricultural Association. The total acreage acquired was 56.80. The site was known as Camp Flint, Placer County, Auburn, California. The site was used as a headquarters and post for the Military Police Battalion to construct, maintain and use a railroad crossing. The site was reported excess on 15 March 1946. The 0.20 license acre was terminated on 30 June 1946. Records at the Corps of Engineers, Real Estate Division do not show when or how the leases were terminated, or if there were any recapture, restrictions, or restoration provisions in the final documents. The site is currently owned by the United States Bureau of Reclamation and the State of California and is divided into two parcels. One parcel (the southern parcel) is currently owned by the Bureau of Reclamation, United States Department of the Interior and is the site of the Auburn Dam Overlook. The other parcel (the northern parcel) is currently owned by the 20th District Agricultural Association, State of Clalifornia and is the site of the State Fairgrounds. In the southern parcel, the only remaining DOD-built structure is a former radio communications facility. The structure is currently abandoned and boarded-up. The southern parcel is also the location of the DOD military company headquarters and barracks which were removed by the State of California (date unknown). In the northern parcel, the only remaining DODbuilt structure is a former DOD barracks building and is currently occupied by the Gold Country Museum and llocated on the State of California Fairgrounds property. The structure was built by the Works Project Administration (WPA) in 1940 and is in very good condition. SITE VISIT: A site visit was conducted on 25-26 March 1991 by Mr. Roger Norris and Mr. Jenn-Yih Peng of The Earth Technology Corporation. The site is divided into two parcels by the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks.
There is no evidence of any hazardous or toxic waste, explosive ordnance, or hazardous structural debris resulting from DOD use of the site.

DEFENSE ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION PROGRAM FORMERLY USED DEFENSE SITES FINDINGS AND DETERMINATION OF ELIGIBILITY

FINDINGS OF FACT 1. In 1942, the United States acquired 0.20 license acre from the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, leased 38.00 acres from the City of Auburn, and 18.60 acres from the 20th District Agricultural Association, State of California. The total acreage acquired was 56.80.
2. The site was known as Camp Flint, Placer County, Auburn, California. The site was used as a headquarters and post for the Military Police Battalion to construct, maintain, and use a railroad crossing. Improvements to the site consisted of the military company headquarters, barracks, and a radio-communication building.
3. The site was reported excess on 15 arch 1946. The license terminated on 30 June 1946. DETERMINATION Based on the foregoing Findings of Fact, the site has been determined to be formerly used by the DOD. Therefore, it is Formerly eligible for the Defense Environmental Restoration Program Used Defense Sites established under 10 U.S.C. 2701 et seq.
