Question # 1
What is Management? Bring at least three definitions of Management with reference and then by discussing those definitions you will develop one definition of Management by yourself.

Definition of Management According To Different Scholars:


Mary Parker Follet: "Management is the art of getting things done through people." Peter Drucker, "Management is a multi-purpose organ that manages business and manages managers and manages workers and work." Harold Koontz, "Management is the art of getting things done through and with people in formally organized groups." Henri Fayol, "To manage is to forecast and to plan, to organize, to command, to co-ordinate and to control."

My Point Of View:
Well according to my point of view management is not just getting things done through other people but it is the art of how one can make other people responsible in a team and he has also the skill to judge the potential of each team member, then to allocate the tasks according to the strengths and capacity of all the individual in a team. The one thing which is also kept in mind is the skill of leadership because only a good leader can control his team effectively and efficiently.

Question # 2
Discuss the four functions of management. Also discuss the managerial skills.

Functions of Management
There are four functions of management and are explained as under:

1. Planning 2. Organizing 3. Leading 4. Controlling

1) Planning:
The first thing which should be kept in mind while talking about management is planning. Planning is basically how to execute any idea in a systematic manner so we can get best result of it. If our planning is good then we are able to execute any idea at right time and at right place through right people.

2) Organizing:
After planning the second step is to bring all your resources together and try to develop a relationship between them in a manner to get maximum output from the available resources which we have, is called organizing.

3) Leading:
Leading comes to guide the team members how to create relationship between available resources which we have discussed in organizing. The leader should have influencing personality so that all the team members should work in a most wanted direction.

4) Controlling:
Controlling is basically to ensure that everything is going in the right direction and according to the plan. Controlling is to make sure that everyone is putting their effort in the same direction and nothing is going in the personal benefit.

Managerial Skills:
1) Technical Skill
As the name of this skill shows that it is the skill relating to the technical aspects. For example this skill is about how to run machinery and to deal with other equipments. The skill requires the art of having marketing and sales techniques.

2) Conceptual Skill:
Conceptual skill is to examine the whole scenario and identify if something is going wrong. This skill helps to have a look of every department goal and convert it to assure overall business goal.

3) Human Skill:
This skill give us the strategy to work with other people, to make sure that the right person is at the right place and to motivate them and try to develop interest among all the team members so that to utilize the resources effectively and efficiently.

Question # 3
By having above-mentioned material in mind, discuss if a "Doctor is Manager" or not? You can take example of a "Heart Surgeon". Your discussion should be based on all the functions of management and managerial skills.

Is doctor A Manager?
Before reaching to any conclusion firstly we should have a look at the activities which a doctor specially a heart surgeon performs. If we have a look at one of the most important activity of a surgeon that is operation then we come to know that he follows every single step of management. As before operation he plans what to do and how to do, then he allocate different task to the member of his team which are going to assist him during operation. During operation he leads from the front and controls throughout the operation he also motivates all his team members so that he can achieve the desired result. . One thing more about doctor according to me when u go to doctor he absorb you with very carefully then he make a quick plan according to condition either he start with tab or with injection his one single wrong move or decision become a negative outcome for patients so he is a manager. He manage many kind of patients and some time he change the treatment of next person because of his other problems this kind of responsibility is vary hard and if you are not a good manger you cannot get 100% results because its matter of some one life and death From the above mentioned discussion there is no doubt in my mind in saying that a doctor is a manager
