SCOPE
This specification details the requirements of two types of pre-mix concrete supplied in the dry form. Standards equivalent to those referenced in this specification shall be approved by the Engineer.
DEFINITIONS
For the purposes of this specification the following definitions shall apply: BATCH : A collection of units of product made from the same consignment of materials from which a sample is to be drawn and inspected to determine conformance with this specification. Quality Assurance Representative; An independent inspection agency approved and appointed by the Engineer

The following terms are defined in the General Conditions of Contract: Anglo American, Approved, Company, Contractor, Engineer
4 4.1
REQUIREMENTS TYPE
Pre-mix concrete shall be supplied in one or both (See Clause 2.2) types as follows: Type 25 Type 40
4.2
DRY MIXTURE
The dry mixtures shall comprise the following materials in proportions for the mixtures to comply with the requirements of this specification. Quartzite stone 19mm Quartzite stone 9,5mm Quartzite crushed sand 0 - 4,75mm Cement

STONE
The 9.5mm and 19.0mm quartzite stone shall comply with the requirements of SANS 1083 Clause 3.3.1. Grading shall be category 2.

SAND
The sand shall comply with the requirements of SANS 1083 Clause 3.2.1. Class shall be sand derived from the mechanical crushing or milling of rock. Chloride content for pre-stressed concrete shall be a maximum of 0.05% of the mass of the cement.
4.5
CEMENT
The cement used in both types per Clause 4.1 shall be ordinary Portland cement or factory blended Portland cement 15 (SANS 50197 Part 1 and 2 and SANS 50196 Parts 1 7).
Note: Rapid hardening and sulphate-resisting types of cement shall not be used unless specifically authorised by the Engineer for special applications.
4.6
WET MIXTURE
Type 25 and type 40 mixtures shall each be mixed with water to give the required consistency of mix.
4.7
CUBE STRENGTH
When tested in accordance with the requirements of Clause 6.3 the 28 day cube strength of the pre-mix shall be as follows: Type 25 Type 40 : 25MPa : 40MPa
4.8
MASS
The total dry mass of each type of mixture that complies with the requirements of Clause 4.2 shall be 25kg.

The results of the above tests shall comply with the requirements of Clause 4.3.
6.2
SAND
The sand as detailed in Clause 4.4 shall be subjected to the test methods as detailed in SANS 1083 for the following properties: Grading Dust content Fineness modules Chloride content
The results of the above tests shall comply with the requirements of Clause 4.4.
6.3
CUBE STRENGTH
The cube strength of the concrete shall be tested in accordance with the requirements of SANS 5863. The results of the tests shall comply with the requirements of Clause 4.5.

Pre-mix concrete In addition each bag shall have a label stitched into a seam that details the following information. Date of manufacture Expiry date Batch number Water mixing instructions
The characters on the label shall be printed green for Type 25 and red for Type 40.

PACKING
Pre-mix bag The pre-mix bag shall be re-usable and comply with the following requirements:

One of the 350mm sides shall be left open and when the bag has been filled with pre-mix and the cement bag placed inside shall be tied closed with wire. 7.2.2 Cement bag The cement shall be enclosed in a re-usable bag that complies with the following requirements: Seams Dimensions : : heat welded except for one side 260mm x 400mm
One of the 260mm sides shall be left open and when the bag has been filled with cement shall be tied closed with wire.
