Midwest Abortion Mill Bought by Texas Chain

by Debra Braun Education Director

April 2012

The Midwest Health Center for Women, a 30-year-old abortion business in downtown Minneapolis, was recently purchased by a chain of abortion centers based in Texas and re-opened February 14 as Whole Womans Health of the Twin Cities. This chain has five abortion centers in Texas and one in Baltimore, Md. The founder and CEO of the chain is Amy Hagstrom Miller, formerly of the Twin Cities (see page 6). Within the past few years, the number of abortions at the Midwest abortion center had been steadily declining, from 2759 in 2008 to 1961 in 2010 (the last year for which statistics are available). We are hoping this trend continues under the new owners, so much so that it would soon close. According to a February 14 press release from Operation Rescue (OR), two of Whole Woman's Texas mills (in Austin and McAllen), were caught during an undercover OR investigation illegally dumping the remains of aborted

Except for the new owners, not much has changed at this abortion facility in downtown Minneapolis since this November 1997 prayer vigil which we conducted shortly after Midwest (now Whole Womans) moved from its previous location in the Parkside Professional Center to 33 S. 5th St. There is no parking on this street now due to the light rail line. However, there is still only one entrance to the abortion center and the abortion clients must walk right past the sidewalk counselors.

In addition, Operation Rescue filed complaints against several abortionists associated with Whole Woman's Health (continued on page 4)

Perhaps you have heard the expression, "the same difference. That saying

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.. Ephesians 6: 12 -13
About 50 people prayed outside the new Planned Parenthood mega abortion center in St. Paul on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22, the first day of our Lenten 40 Days for Life.

HHS Mandate an Assault on our Religious Liberties

Editors noteAs this newsletter went to press, Stand up for Religious Freedom rallies were being planned for March 23 in more than 100 cities across the country to protest this assault on our religious liberties. Pro-Life Action Ministries was planning rallies in St. Paul, Duluth and Orlando. (www.standupforreligiousfreedom.com) plainly and simply our religious freedoms being assaulted by our government. Our First Amendment freedom of religion is supposed to guarantee that we will not be kept from practicing our faith or be told by the government what to believe or how to live out our beliefs. That is why this mandate is an attack on all Americans and not just Catholics. And our freedom of religion is an individual liberty that does not hinge on the faith to which we belong. And because, as people of faith, we organize together into churches and other institutions for worship and living our faith, these churches and other institutions enjoy the same First Amendment freedoms. As Timothy Cardinal Dolan of New York stated in his February 24, 2012 letter to all Catholic bishops, In the United States, religious liberty does not depend on the benevolence of who is regulating us. It is our first freedom and respect for it must be broad and inclusivenot narrow and exclusive. Catholics and other people of faith and good will are not second class citizens. And it is not for the government to decide which of our min-

The recent mandate from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) forces religious people, organizations, hospitals and educational institutions to provide abortion-inducing drugs, contraception and sterilization in direct contradiction to deeply held moral beliefs. But the issue is not about contraceptives nor their availability, contrary to many media reports and the propaganda efforts of Planned Parenthood and its associates. That may be the ignition for our need to respond, but the issue is We are looking for media-skilled volunteers to help us with several projects. istries is religious enough to warrant religious freedom protection. We have the deceptive voices of those attempting to force this mandate upon us testifying that we are seeking to deny contraceptives. There is nothing in the efforts to stop the HHS mandate that will or is intended to deprive women of contraceptives (as noble an effort as that may be.) The mandate has not yet been put into place and women in the United States today have unprecedented access to contraceptives, often freely available at taxpayer expense. Planned Parenthood has built a billion dollar business on dispensing contraceptives with our tax dollars while building their abortion empire. There is no need for this mandate to make contraceptives available for little to no cost for women. Our efforts are not an attack on the person of Mr. Obama, just the policies pertaining to this assault on our religious liberties. And this is not an attack on the healthcare law commonly referred to as Obamacare. It is indeed a response to the violation of our religious freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment.

Good Friday Prayer Vigils Join us on April 6

Pro-Life Action News

Good Friday 2011, Planned Parenthood, St. Paul (Photo by Bob Conroy)

Throughout the years, Christians have experienced a powerful and moving commemoration of our Savior's death by attending the solemn Good Friday Prayer Vigils sponsored by Pro-Life Action Ministries. Plan now to set aside some time on Good Friday to commemorate Christ's redeeming act and to pray for the innocent children who are killed daily by abortion. We will carry a life-size cross, be led in prayer by local clergy of various denominations and meditate on the redemption won by Christ. Please come for as long or as little time as your schedule allows. Womens Health Center 32 East First St. Duluth, Minn. 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

applies to the new 40 Days for Life Twin Cites campaign at Planned Parenthood. God granted victory at HealthPartners Regions Hospital and the abortion unit there closed on December 9, 2011. Unfortunately, the new Planned Parenthood (PP) mega abortuary opened for business December 20, 2011, just in time for Christmas. This new PP facility is located in the 16th largest metro are in the United States, but it is the 3rd largest abortuary in the country (46,000 sq ft), killing pre-born infants up to the last minute allowed, that is, up to 21 weeks, 6 days. (At 22 weeks, Minnesota law requires, among other things, that abortions be committed in hospitals.) The location is different but the spirit and the abortion practice are the same. Our 40 Days for Life tactic at the new site is the sameprayer. We do not "wrestle" with the abortionist, the escorts, the valets, the security guards, the administrators or Sarah Stoesz, the director. We have and will interact with all of them, but our advantage will be prayer and the ability to stand in spiritual warfare. To this end, the emphasis for the new 40 Days for Life Twin Cities campaign

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10) (from page 1) will also participate." By the time you receive this, the 40 Days for Life Twin Cities Lenten campaign will be over, but the battle has not ended. Pastors, leaders and laypersons are needed to continue to pray and sidewalk counsel not only in front of PP but at the four other surgical abortuaries in the Twin Cities. The lives of children and the spiritual, emotional and physical well-being of women and men headed to the abortuaries are at stake. Just like at Regions Hospital, if we are not there, how will women and men, potential victims of the wake of abortion, hear and see the truth? The sad fact is they won't. But with pro-lifers standing in prayer and sidewalk counseling, this will eventually end. The abortuary closed at Regions and God will do the same at Planned Parenthood. It's the "same difference with a different location but the same battle. See you on the street.

There has been an increase in interest of nonCatholic pastors and African American pastors to hit the street in prayer, fasting and reflection. The video is on the 40 Days for Life Twin Cities website: www.40daysforlife.com /twincities (on the "Get Involved" page). "As a leader, I think we need to champion the cause. As indicated by the photo on page 1, the abortion clients have to walk past the sidewalk counselors at Whole Womans. However, typically there is only one sidewalk counselor there (sometimes outnumbered by the pro-abortion escorts). If there were two more sidewalk counselors there each day, we would have a better opportunity to save lives because they would be able to walk down the block or stand at the parking lot nearby to meet up with the women before the escorts do. This would still leave one sidewalk counselor right at the doorway to speak with the women who are dropped off there. This abortion center is located on 5th St. between Hennepin and Nicollet, a few blocks from Target Field. Bus and light rail stops are within a block or we can give you advice on parking nearby. It is a very safe area during the day. Please call (651) 771-1500 if you can help out, even just occasionally. Thank you!

A hallmark of our ministry has been confronting the evil of abortion with the love of Christ. This approach has included publicly identifying who the abortionists (and pro-abortion leaders) are. The practice of placing the names of abortionists in this newsletter has a twofold purpose: to ask for your heartfelt prayers for the conversion of those listed and to inform you so that you are not patients of those committing abortions. The criteria for placing someone on the following list is that the individual is directly involved in committing abortions and that this can be reasonably verified. We have resoundingly condemned any sort of physical or psychological threats to anyone involved in abortion. Our desire is for the love of God to permeate the lives of those associated with abortion, that they will turn away from the harm they inflict and become followers of Christ as so many before them have done. Please pray for the following abortionists:
