August 2012 the newsletter of Jarrettown United Methodist Church 1460 Limekiln Pike Dresher PA 19025-1116 (215) 646-4129 FAX (215) 646-6912 www.jarrettownchurch.org Email: jarrettownumc@comcast.net OR jarrettownumc@verizon.net 9:15 am: Contemporary Service 11:00 am: Traditional Service
A teacher took her class of 7-year-olds to visit residents of an Alzheimers care center. One boy spied an elderly woman sitting alone on a bed, slipped into her room and gave her a hug. She and many who saw the interaction shed tears. The boy scurried back to his group, apologizing for making the woman cry. She just looked like she needed a hug, he said meekly. To the boys surprise, the teacher commended him: Your arms were the arms of Jesus to her. Scripture tells of Jesus taking children in his arms (Mark 10:13-16). This child became Jesus to someone in her second childhood, taking her in his arms and blessing her. Based on She Needed a Hug, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories Sampler (Simon & Schuster eBook, 2011)
Chris and I would like to express our deepest appreciation and thanks to ALL of you as the congregation of believers at Jarrettown Church who contributed to the preparation of our fabulous beginning in ministry with you. We have been praying for you--even prior to our arrival at Jarrettown Church--and we will continue to be in prayer for God's hand to be upon us in this place and in all the places where we engage others for the furtherance of the kingdom of God. May God's peace and the grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, be with each of you as we move forward to where God is calling Jarrettown Church. Pastor Bob and Chris Kirby

by 5PM and if were early enough, Pastor Walt might let us stop at Dunkin Donuts for a treat. AID FOR FRIENDS: Summer time has claimed a few of our members!! We wish them a restful season and will be happy to see them when they come home, but in the meantime, we dont want to stop supplying the meals that are still so important to the homebound indigent in our area. Please consider joining our regular group on the third Tuesday of the month or starting a whole new group at a dierent time. Wouldnt it be a blessing to be able to double the meals we send out? Call Carole McGlumphy or Michele Scholtz if you feel led to help us feed the needy. ADULT MISSION TRIP: Weve set the dates for our Adult Mission Trip to Habitat for Humanity in Washington, Pa. Well be leaving on Sunday, September 30 (after the church picnic?) and return on the following Friday. Team members are encouraged to start their fundraising eorts early even though the cost of the trip is minimal. Habitat will have work assignments for every level of ability including helping out in their home center called Re-Store. All team members must be 18 or older to participate. Contact Pastor Walt if you have questions. AMBLER COMMUNITY CUPBOARD: Bette Derr delivered 93 donated items as well as $120 in cash donations to the Cupboard in June. At their open house fundraiser a very generous member of our congregation who attended with her also donated $1,000 to their expansion eort. The Cupboard is an ongoing outreach of the Mission Team and we encourage you to keep putting your donations in the collection box in the Mission Center. Two-fers are a great way to keep that box filled!! HEIFER INTERNATIONAL: With the final pledges from the Walk-AThon in May we were able to donate $1,038.00 to aid in the Ghana irrigation and farming projects. In addition we forwarded $1,500.00 for livestock donated in memory of Paul Edwards from the Memorial Fund. JESUS VICTORY GARDEN: The plots have been planted and are well under way. In fact, the first harvest of 27 pounds of radishes was delivered to Philabundance on our May trip. Your hard work during these hot summer months will be blessed and so will the recipients. Heres to outdoing ourselves with a greater yield!! YOUR MISSION TEAM CONTINUES TO FIND WAYS TO REACH OUT IN GODS LOVE TO OUR COMMUNITY AND BEYOND. WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNFAILING SUPPORT AND GENEROSITY IN THESE EFFORTS. IF YOU HAVE A HEART FOR MISSIONS, PLEASE CONTACT PASTOR WALT AND LET US KNOW HOW WE CAN HELP YOU FULFILL ANY NEEDS YOU MAY BE LED TO EXPRESS
INTERFAITH: August is devoted to hosting Interfaith families. Sue Diehl continues to be our lead in this eort. We need volunteers to help with providing meals, overnight stays, transportation, moving in and out of our space in Fellowship Hall and the Education wing, and laundry. If you havent signed up for one or more of these needs, please see her calendar in the Narthex and put your name in a spot where you can help out. Another Interfaith eort is helping families reenter the community by providing temporary housing at their Hope Gardens apartment building in Ambler. Two families are coming to the Gardens with almost no belongings and Interfaith is asking for donations of furniture, new bedding, kitchen utensils and cleaning supplies. Also greatly appreciated are items that can fill their Welcome Baskets for new families, including cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items as well as $25 gift cards to stores such as Target and Wal-Mart. Barbs Folly is a storage area where Interfaith collects donations of household goods to be used by the families at Hope Gardens and other shelters. Laundry detergent, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, body wash and shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes and cleaning supplies can also be donated to this eort. There will be a collection box in the narthex all during August where donations of any of the above requested items can be placed. PHILABUNDANCE: On Tuesday, June 26, the Philabundance team (11 strong) helped to turn 3,230 pounds of loose raw beans into 2-pound bags (thats 1,615 bags). These will be distributed along with other goods to families and individuals in need. Our next trip will be on July 24 the bus leaves
