Trojan War

The events that led to the Trojan War began long before the war itself did. Once upon a time in the very cloudy place of Mt. Olympus, Zeus began to realize that the earth was terribly overpopulated. He then devised a plan that would lead to the death of many mortals, the Trojan War. A happy gathering of gods and goddesses came to celebrate the marriage between Peleus and Thetis, a mortal and a sea-goddess. Almost all gods and goddesses were invited to this rare event except Eris , the goddess of discord. The angered goddess crashed the wedding banquet and threw a Golden Apple inscribed "To the fairest of the goddesses. Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite fought for the apple immediately. Zeus ordered them to take their quarrel elsewhere. He then appointed Paris , a Trojan prince of Troy and reputedly the handsomest man alive, to decide the matter. All three goddesses attempted to bribe him. Hera promised him dominion over the whole world, Athena promised him wisdom, and Aphrodite offered him the most beautiful woman in the world.Paris chose Aphrodite, and she promised him Helen. But Helen was already married to Menelaus , the Greek king of Sparta. Menelaus discovered Helen's disappearance and asked his brother Agamemnon for help and by that the Trojan war began. The Greeks join forces to retrieve Helen and bring her back to Menelaus. The Greeks won many important battles in the Trojan War. Briseis, a concubine of Achilles, was taken unjustly by Agamemnon and as a result, Achilles refused to do battle. For the duration of most of the pitched battles, Achilles remained shut in his tent. Because of this the Trojans has advanced boldly in battle and has made the Greeks retreat. Saddened by the growing losses of his countrymen, Patroclus ended up begging Achilles to lend his men, the Myrmidons. Patroclus rallies the Greeks and succeeds in making the Trojans retreat. But he was unfortunately killed by Prince Hector.

Prince Hector, who seems to know the consequences of his action, said his farewells to his beloved wife and son.Andromache, Prince Hectors wife, refused to let him go. But he did not listen to it and instead he has showed a way where she and her son can escape in case the Troy falls. Furious by the death of his dear friend, Achilles killed many Trojans mercilessly. The Trojan hero Hector was killed by Achilles. Despite losing almost all of its greatest heros, Troy still would not fall. Still seeking to gain entrance into Troy, clever Odysseus came up with an ingenious plan. With the aid of Athena, he ordered a large wooden horse to be built. When it was completed, Odysseus led a small army of Greek warriors and hid themselves inside. The rest of the Greek fleet sailed away, so as to deceive the Trojans. When the Trojans found the horse Laocoon warned them of the horse, but he was ignored. One man, Simoun, was left behind with his arms tied and his clothes torn to shreds. He pretended to be enraged with the Greeks, stating that he had escaped being sacrificed to Athena, who had become angry at the Greeks for stealing the Palladium. He assured the Trojans that the wooden horse would appease the goddess and would bring victory to the Trojans. The Trojans celebrated what they thought was their victory, and breached their own city's walls in order to secure the wooden horse. Later that night, after the Trojans were drunk celebrating, Simoun freed the Greek warriors out from the horse, and sent a beacon to the Greek fleet, which quickly returned. The Greeks slayed Trojans in their beds and killed them mercilessly while Andromache escape with Helen and Paris. Paris, who seem to have noticed that his father and Briseis were missing, has seek for them. Achilles who was also searching for her beloved Briseis, has seen Agamemnon threatening his concubine. He then killed Agamemnon. Paris, who saw Achilles with Briseis, shot an arrow to Achilles heel and with that Achilles was killed.
The Greeks seized the city in a bloody night and the Trojan War was won.
