My Goals
To help your child develop intellectually, morally, emotionally and socially. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment that promotes learning. To help your child discover new interests.

Arrival
The school opens each morning at 7:30 am. If your child is here between 7:30 and 7:45 and is not eating breaking, he/she will wait in the playroom. At 7:45 the children may come to the classroom. The morning song Im So Glad will play over the intercom at 7:57 as a reminder to get to class by 8:00. If a child not in their seat, ready to work, he/she is tardy after the song ends.

Dismissal
Dismissal begins at 2:45. All students should be picked up no later than 3:00 unless they are attending an after school activity. Please do not check out between 2:30 - 2:45. If there is a change in your childs dismissal plan or you must check out early, please send a note or call the office.

Parking
For safety reasons, parents are asked not to park in the half-circle drive during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Spaces are purchased and reserved for Campus School faculty. Parking passes may be purchased from the U of M Parking Services for $25.00 per year. (general parking areas only)

Metered spots are available for visitors during the school day.

Uniforms
All students should wear the appropriate school uniform each day. Shorts, skirts, leggings, dresses, jumpers, and skorts must be knee length. Colors for bottoms are navy, khaki, or black. Shirts must have a collar and sleeves. Turtle necks are acceptable. Shirt colors are white, navy, gray, or U of M blue. Sweaters or light jackets worn in the building must be navy, white, gray, or U of M blue. All shoes must have a strap across the back. No heels higher than an inch and a half. Students who are out of uniform will receive a disciplinary notice.

Attendance Policy

As a school of choicesatisfactory attendance is a requirement.


Please submit a parent or doctors note within three days of any absence; otherwise, they will be unexcused. 15 combined absences, early dismissals, and/or tardies will result in denial of admission for the upcoming school year.

Medicine
ALL medicine, over the counter and prescribed, must have written authorization from a doctor.

You can come in to the school and administer medicine to your child without an authorization form.
Please do not send your child with ANY medication. This includes cough drops and Tums

Breakfast and Lunch


Lunch costs - cash only $2.00 daily $9.50 per week (Mondays) $38.00 per month 50 milk treats range from 25 - 60 Lunches that are unused during one week/month will roll over. You may now add to your childs account online at https://www.mypaymentsplus.com/default.aspx. Breakfast is served daily from 7:30 to 7:45 and is free to all Campus School children. Second graders are to eat in the Art room. Unfortunately, there is not enough room for parents to eat breakfast with their child. If you want to bring something special for your childs birthday, we will have the treat during lunch. If invitations are distributed for parties please send enough for everyone. You are also welcome to come eat lunch with your child any day during our lunch period.

Weekly Spelling Tests


There will be two list each week a basic list on grade level words and a challenge list. Each Monday I will give a pretest to determine which list your child will work at home. Your child will complete homefun only on his/her assigned list. On the back of the spelling tests I will give students a dictation sentence to write that use high frequency and spelling words as well.

Standards Based Grading


Our progress reports are aligned with TN State and Core Curriculum Standards. The end goal for your child is to meet grade level expectations. Assessments will be measured using the following grading scale:
NS Needs Support AS Approaching Standard MS Meeting Standard The student needs addition support to master the standard. The student has a general understanding of the standard, but is unable to consistently meet the standard. The student has mastered the standard.

ES Exceeding Standard

The student has mastered the standard and is working at least one grade level above the first grade standard.

Common Core Standards


During the 2012-2013 school year Campus School will begin the transition from the Tennessee standards to the Common Core Standards in Language Arts and Math. The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a stateled effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). These standards define the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education careers. Common Core Standards have been adopted by 45 states and 3 territories.

Campus School follows Memphis City Schools Code of Conduct. Campus School encourages cooperation and life skills through the Responsive Classroom Model. School-Wide Positive Behavior Plan Progressive Discipline As a school of choicefour or more office referrals could result in your child not being allowed to return for the following school year

Discipline Consequences
If a child has consistent misbehavior in class, the following steps will be taken: 1st infraction - Parent communication and loss of privileges and rewards 2nd infraction - Step 1 Warning Letter 3rd infraction - Step 2 Warning Letter 4th infraction - Office Referral If a child has 3 office referrals in a quarter the conduct grade may be lowered on the report card.

These incidents are non-negotiable reasons for office referrals: disrespect to a teacher, refusal to follow directions, cursing, fighting, bullying, threatening, theft/vandalism, and harassment.

Field Trip Requirements


Parents and guardians are drivers for our field trips unless a school bus is rented. In order for you or a family member to drive they must We must comply with state laws regarding booster seats. (less than 49 tall) No child may sit in the passenger seat unless riding with a parent. We love siblings, but they are not allowed to go on field trips with us.

Conferences
I will schedule a conference with every parent at the end of the first nine weeks of school. All parents are required to attend the first quarter conferences. I am not available to meet with parents in the morning or during dismissal. Active communication is encouraged, please contact me via e-mail or note to make an appointment for a conference. Conferences are typically held during support time, but I am available before and after school as well.
