Overview
This Guideline provides guidance on installing and testing an Ericsson RAX board.

1. About This Document


This document has been written with my field experience as well as the experience from those consulted.

The purpose of this document is to standardize the process for an RF Performance Engineer to install and test an Ericsson RAX board.

2. Install
1) Locate existing RAX board. Shown in Figure 2.1.

Figure 2.1 2) Remove adjacent Blank board using a T8 Torx screwdriver. An example is shown in Figure 2.2. Not all Torx screwdrivers will fit the small recess of the Ericsson board. This one is a Craftsman T8 x 2-1/2 in. Screwdriver. Sears item# 00941653000

Figure 2.2 3) Plug in the board immediately to the left of the existing one, and wait for it to normalize (all lights green).

4) You will have to unlock the newly installed RAX. Once plugged in, it will show up as locked, From OSS, open RAN Explorer, Locate the Node B, then Right Click for Tools Node Status Analyzer (NSA), then launch Tools Cabinet Viewer Application and Unlock the new RAX from the button on top of application. Figure 2.3.

3. Test
1) Lock the first original RAX (it could be done from element manager or cabinet viewer in OSS). This will force all calls onto the new Rax in order to test it. 2) Do the call test. (1) one CS (Voice) and (1) one PS (Data) call for the whole site). 3) Unlock the first RAX board.

4. Verify
1) Open Cabinet Viewer; ensure RAX boards operational 2) Open Alarm List, Alarm Matrix or Node Status Analyzer to verify no alarms. 3) Check Channel Element Utilization after the install as pictured in Figure 4.1. The Utilization should go down. RAX board install

5. Modify
1) The RF Performance Engineer will modify the Cell Channel configurations as applicable. For detailed instructions on changing Cell Level Parameters, see Appendix 1. 1 RAX board => sf16AdmUl set to 16 (128kBit per RAB for each User allowed) 2 RAX boards => sf16AdmUl set to 32 (Still 128kBit per RAB for each User allowed due to second board added) 3 or more RAX boards => sf16AdmUl set to 50 (which is the maximum value)

6. Appendix 1: Change Cell level Parameter


1. Open WCDMA RAN Explorer Right click on OSS desktop>Configuration>WCDMA radio access network> WCDMA RAN Explorer

2. Open cell and channel management Click the button OR Configuration>Radio network>Cell/channel

3. Double click the UMTS network (RDN = plmn PLMN_310_410_3) and double click on the RNC name. This lists all the sites in the RNC

4. Choose the site where you want to change the parameter and click the right arrow to bring it to the selected column on the right. This lists all the parameters that can be changed for all the sectors 5. Double click on any parameter to change its value and click apply.

7. Appendix 2: View Cabinet Viewer


1. Open WCDMA RAN Explorer Right click on OSS desktop>Configuration>WCDMA radio access network> WCDMA RAN Explorer 2. Open Node Status Analyser Expand the UMTS network RDN = plmn PLMN_310_410_3 in the left hand column and expand the RNC name. Right click on the site name>tools> Node Status Analyser

3. Click Tools>Cabinet Viewer

Here you can see all the boards in the RBS and their health. By selecting a RBS element it is possible to lock, unlock or restart it.
