GENERAL DESCRIPTION
SPM-2000 is a polymer converter for rust, for the treatment of corrosion. This inert compound reacts with a polymer contained in SPM-2000s formula for sealing the surface from the penetration of humidity. When the treated area turns black, the transformation of rust has been completed in areas free of oxidation, after SPM-2000 dries.

VANTAGES OF USE SPM-2000 OVER THE TRADITIONAL METHODS FOR REMOVING OXIDATION FROM IRON.

FIRST: SPM-2000 is a single step process. It eliminates the necessity of using acids, sand blasting and tedious sanding operations for cleaning. Just apply SPM-2000 using a brush, a paint roller or spray over oxidized surfaces, and SPM-2000 starts working immediately.

SECOND: The use of mechanical methods is destructive and deteriorates surfaces, wearing them out when removing oxidation. These methods remove rust, but not solve the oxidation problem. SPM-2000 eliminates rust, saves the surface and helps prevent future oxidations. The surfaces that were treated with SPM-2000 may be painted later, since SPM-2000 works as an excellent base and may be painted without previous preparation to the surface.

POLYMER COMNVERTER FOR RUST

In order to adequately prepare a surface for cohesion, eliminate all loose and dusty oxidation, the cracked thick oxidation, loose paint, grease, oil and dirt. There is no necessity for eliminating oxidation until metal is completely clean and shiny. In totally saline media, the surface must be totally rinsed with running water to eliminate the saline residues. To obtain better results, it is recommended that the surface is totally dry before apply SPM-2000, so that the water molecules do not create a future oxidation or rust.

Recommendations: SPM-2000 may be applied when ambient temperature after 12 hours from the application is expected to be between 10 C and 45 C. SPM-2000 may not be applied when humidity is high or an exposure to rain is expected within the following 24 hours from the application. If there is an unexpected exposure to water, the spots created when the product runs off, may be removed from hard surfaces, washing them off with water.  It is recommended to apply two layers to convert oxidation into a black coat, in order to protect the areas. If occurs an unexpected exposure to water, must be dry, and then applied SPM-2000 over the affected surfaces. It covers up to 7 square meters per liter. SPM-2000 pulverization works over the metallic surfaces. The following Figure shows a piece with two layers of the product.

 This product contains some ingredients soluble to water and due to this fact, it is recommended a finishing layer for an adequate behavior in harsh environments The best behavior is the result of using layers of alkyd paint, but paints based on chlorinated rubber, epoxy, polyurethane and other of based on oil may also be used. SPM-2000. Superficial layers of latex are not recommended. Below, a figure is shown after 2 months from the application of SPM2000 with a layer of paint.

CHEMICAL BEHAVIOR
By combining metallurgical chemistry and polymerism, a product has been developed which performs a process in two stages: In the first place, corrosion converts chemically into a polymer. Later, this polymer becomes a protecting compound for the surface.

This conversion process starts when the surface turns black, when the oxidation transformation is complete. The areas without oxidation appear in a transparent color when they dry.

1.- SPM-2000 is applied in an oxidized metal surface. 2.- SPM-2000 starts to convert oxidation chemically into an inert compound. 3.- SPM-2000 completely eliminates leaving a protecting polymer barrier.

SPM-2000 may be applied with a brush, a non-pneumatic pulverizing pistol, a painting roll or glove. Apply it freely. When applying with a pulverizing pistol, let the product pass through a siever. Clean the application tools immediately with detergent and water. The treatment against corrosion SPM-2000 is a single capacity for iron or steel using a wire brush or by sanding. It is ideal for using in maintenance in applications were sand blasting cleaning is neither practical nor economic. In these applications SPM-2000 provides a quality level for chemical conversion and protection, especially when it is followed by conventional coatings, such as primers or other types of finishing.

SPM-2000 was approved for 500 and 1000 hours at 45 C. in a salt spray chamber, salt spray ASTM (B117-73), and a satisfactory behavior was obtained. This test is equivalent to 15 years of outdoor exposure. This protection is performed with SPM-2000 in addition to a coating such as Alkid Epoxi, Uretane, and Chlorinated rubber.

Manejo y Almacenamiento: Life expectancy; more than 10 years Storage; protect it from freezing; store it between 4.4 and 40.05 C. Application temperature from 10 to 45 C. Low toxicity, it does not irritate the skin and eyes.

NOTE: The anticorrosion treatment SPM-2000, stains the skin, use gloves or wash off immediately

PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION POLYMER CONVERTER FOR RUST

The advanced formula conquers and overcomes rust absorbing and transforming the iron oxide particles in a black barrier, free from humidity. It coats and protects the metallic surfaces protecting them from new oxidation attacks, increasing the life expectancy of the equipment.

SPM - 2000 prevents mechanical uses from rust elimination to deteriorate the surface. Additionally, these methods solve the rust problem but not the oxidation. SPM - 2000 is able to prevent it. SPM - 2000 is a water-based emulsion, it does not contain solvents and it has a low toxicity.

TESTING PERFORMED WITH SPM-2000

Back on November 3rd, 2008, PEMEXS personnel from the Maintenance area were gathered with Separation and Pumping System from Activo Cantarell and personnel from the Mexican Company Grupo Cirro Cooper S.A de C.V. in PEMEXs facilities located at 4 from the Carmen-Puerto Real highway. The purpose of this meeting was to perform a series of testing for the SPM-2000, which the above mentioned company offers PEMEX under the Contact No. 428027621. Through these testing, the products efficacy was proven. As already mentioned in this document, SPM-2000 has an approximate protection of 7 to 10 years and the objective of these testing is to observe by a series of photographs taken in a period of 3 months, approximately, that the product meets with its functional purpose. This product was applied to the following parts: crane boom hook, to a blind flange and a tube section, which was totally corroded.

The first pictures for the first day of testing are shown below: 1. November 3rd, 2008. In the following Figures, we will see the parts before the application of SPM2000 and after its application.

On Figure 2, it is observed that the part has sections with paint. We should mention that if we apply SPM2000 over the painted surface, the product will not perform its function of protecting because, as it was already mentioned, SPM-2000 needs the iron oxide to react. In this area with paint, over time, the crane boom hook will show new oxidation. For this reason, it is important to remove the remains of paint, but do not reach the clear metal because it will have the same effect of not protecting. In the following Figures, we will observe the mentioned parts with the first layer of SPM-2000, just applied.

Later, according to the reaction, the color will also be changing, as it is shown below. After this application, and after 20 minutes, the product will be dried off, and it is recommended to apply a second layer.

2. November 18th, 2008. In the following Figures, the parts are shown with two layers of SPM-2000, after 15 days.

3. December 2nd, 2008. The following images were taken a month after the application of SPM-2000.

4. December 16th, 2008. After a month and a half, a layer of paint was applied, as we can see in the following Figures; it is important to mention that it is not necessary to wait a long time, because the paint may be applied after 24 hours from the application of the first and second layer of SPM-2000.

5. January 9th, 2009.Finaly, the pictures taken two months and a half after the application of SPM2000 with a layer of paint, will be shown.

We may conclude that SPM-2000 offers an effective protection in a period of three months, in conditions where the parts were exposed to the environment (rain, humidity) after the products application and at an ambient temperature range between 18 and 32 C. Therefore, follow up will be performed on these parts; some pictures will be taken after two months, starting from the last series of pictures, and continuing in a period of six months and so on until reaching the maximum protection range in a determined period of time already established for this product by the company Grupo Cirro Cooper.
