TRIPLE STEP TOWARD THE CURE TO HOST 3RD ANNUAL 5K RUN/WALK FUNDRAISER|

The non-profit organization strives to find a cure for breast cancer in a fun way
LONG BEACH, CA (Aug. 16, 2012) California-based non-profit organization Triple Step Toward the Cure will host its 3rd Annual Stepping Toward the Cure 5K Run & Walk in efforts to continue raising funds in support of women and families affected by triple negative breast cancer. The much anticipated event will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at El Dorado East Regional Park in Long Beach, CA. Beginning at 7 a.m., participants will enjoy fitness, food, live celebrity performances, a Wellness Expo with information booths and health experts on hand to answer questions, and fun activities for the entire family men included! The close knit group of supporters, breast cancer survivors, family members, medical professionals, and educators, focuses primarily on prompting awareness of the lesser known Triple Negative breast cancer (TNBC). This form of cancer disproportionately targets young women between the ages of 30-45, often in the minority community. We are thrilled with the community support and overall success of our first two 5K events and are expecting our third walk to be even bigger and better, says Lori Flowers, co-founder and CEO of Triple Step Toward the Cure. Many now believe that breast cancer is no longer an issue because a lot of progress has been made and survival rates have increased substantially. Unfortunately, this is not always the case with certain subtypes like triple negative, especially since the current TNBC treatment options are so limited. Our ultimate goal is to raise awareness about this breast cancer subtype that is still taking our mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends in the prime of their lives. We believe the Annual Stepping Toward the Cure 5K Fun Run & Walk is the perfect forum to do just that. Registration costs $25 per person and all participants will receive an official T-shirt, walker/runner contestant number, goodie bag, and a

chance to win prizes including a piece of Tiffany & Co. jewelry. Registrants may choose to walk the 5K or run along the scenic course. Early registration is strongly recommended. TNBC is a negative subtype of breast cancer that lacks three important receptors known as estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and Human Epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). Testing negative to all three of these hormone receptors means the cancer is triple negative and will not respond to hormone treatments, thus making chemotherapy, radiation and surgery the only current options for treatment. Flowers co-founded the organization after losing her only sister to the rare form of breast cancer in 2009. Her personal loss sparked a passion to help other women who have been affected by the devastating disease and promote awareness among those who may not be aware of it. Flowers, along with her mother Carole Flowers-Clement and fellow friend and TNBC survivor Louisa Gloger, teamed up to launch Triple Step Toward the Cure in efforts to help save lives on a statewide scale. We are encouraged by the recent strides made in breast cancer research, but we still have a long way to go. We want to put more focus on this subtype of breast cancer so that increased efforts will be made to develop better treatment options and ultimately a cure. In the meantime, we will continue to support women battling this illness, says Triple Step Co-founder/CFO and TNBC survivor, Louisa Gloger. I was extremely blessed to have the support of my community along with access to incredible doctors during my fight and we at Triple Step feel that every TNBC patient deserves the same experience.
