Voters in Pennsylvanias 8th District Disagree with Rep. Fitzpatricks vote on Vouchers
Polling in the District shows voters disagree with ending Medicare
Burlington, VT Today, Democracy for America (DFA), released poll numbers showing that likely voters in Pennsylvanias 8th Congressional District overwhelmingly oppose Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryans plan to turn Medicare into a voucher plan. The plan laid out in Ryans proposed budget passed by the House of Representatives this year, scraps Medicare as we know it and creates a voucher program. Voters in the 8th largely oppose creating a voucher program for Medicare. Only 12% of likely voters support Medicare vouchers. When asked if they would support a candidate who advocated transitioning Medicare into a voucher program, only 16% of likely voters said they would. This should concern Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick earlier this year after voting on the plan to end Medicare and create a plan of vouchers, Rep Fitzpatrick said the plan would protect our nations seniors. Other issues that are taking center stage in the district include voters concerns on jobs and the economy. When asked what the most important issue is this cycle, 48% of likely voters in the Eighth District chose jobs and the economy. Followed by good government and ending the partisan gridlock at 18% and Medicare and Social Security at 13%. Also, voters in the Eighth Congressional District overwhelmingly favor ending the Bush Tax Cuts for people earning over $250,000 a year. 56% of likely voters said that they favor ending these cuts. This polling was conducted August 7 and 8 and is considered a strong indicator at how the Eighth Congressional District will vote 82 days out from the election. Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America said, Mike Fitzpatrick is wrong about his vote on Medicare and voters should hold him accountable for his vote. Ending Medicare as we know it and replacing it with vouchers harms our seniors. Thats why were supporting Kathy Boockvar for Pennsylvanias Eighth District. The polling was paid for by Democracy for America and was conducted August 7 and 8 in a survey of 737 likely voters in Pennsylvanias Eighth Congressional District with the margin of error falling to 3.6%. Earlier this month, Kathy Boockvar was named one of the Dean Dozen. The Dean Dozen is DFA's highest tier of federal endorsement.
