1 Properties of Circles

F3 Math Note Chapter 3 Circles II

iii) Two chords that are equal in length are equidistant from the centre and vice versa.
Chord Arc

Major sector

Minor sector
a)Symmetry - any diameter of a circle is an axis of symmetry of the circle. - A circle is symmetrical about any straight line that passes through its centre.

iv) Chords of the same length cut arcs of the same length.

Example :

1.

O O

b) Properties of chord i) A radius that is perpendicular to a chord divides the chord into two equal parts and vice versa

ii) Perpendicular bisectors of two chords intersect at the centre.
