On September 1, we have an opportunity to hike the Blackhand Gorge Trail in Newark, OH and raise money for the National Center for Children and Families as well as support a local charity. We are looking for a team or teams of 6 to 10 people. You may hike the entire trail out and back for a total of 8.5 miles or any increment that you would like. This trail is 4.25 miles in length and there is parking available at both ends. This is in conjunction with One Voice Trekking. The fee for each team is $300. If the teams have 10 people that will be $30 per person. We also ask that you bring a canned food item to benefit a local food pantry. If you are unable to hike with us but would like to contribute toward the fee that would be a wonderful way to assist this charity that ministers to children and families in need. We will meet at the church building at 8 a.m. If you would like to participate, a signup sheet will be posted on the bulletin board or you may contact Scott Brown.
SCOTTS THOUGHTS
Over the next several weeks I will be exploring the idea of worship as a lifestyle that honors God, encourages our brothers and sisters in Christ, guards our hearts against temptation and enables an evangelistic fulfillment of the great commission. When we as Christ followers fill our days with prayer and heartfelt worship, we have set our minds on things above and engaged in a mindset that gives us a different perspective. This provides us a basis for inexpressible joy and peace that passes understanding in whatever circumstance we face. When we understand that giving our lives to Jesus means total surrender, we have freedom to declare His worth in everything we face. More on this topic in the coming weeks.. In and for Him, Scott
In August, these sessions are being replaced with some very special guest speakers. I urge you to be a part of these Sunday evening events. FINAL THOUGHT: The real worth of a person is determined by what that person does when there is nothing to do.
The August military hero of the month is Sgt. Nathaniel J. Grabaskas. Sgt. Grabaskas joined the U.S. Army in February, 2009. After successfully completing Airborne Training in July, 2009, Sgt. Grabaskas was awarded both Soldier of the Month and Soldier of the Year Sgt. Grabaskas is presently serving his 2nd deployment to Afghanistan as a Tactical Explosive Detection Dog Handler. He and his dog, Laika, are attached to the 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion. Sgt. Grabaskas is the grandson of Richard and Bertha Boyer. Sgt. Book Nook
The next meeting of the Book Nook is Monday, September 24th, at 6:30 p.m. The book for the September meeting is Home to Harmony by Philip Gulley. The Island of Heavenly Daze by Angela Hunt and Lori Copeland is the book for the October 22nd meeting. Both of these books are in the church library. This would be a great time to visit the library, borrow the book, and join the Book Nook for a great time of Christian fellowship.

100 Crosses This Tuesday, August 21, we are encouraging anyone who can cut, staple or prime wooden crosses to be at the church pole barn no later than 5:30 p.m. At our Sunday school picnic, Lowell shared a goal of assembling 100 crosses for people to place in a strategic spot in their lawn or flower beds to remind our community that this was a nation founded upon Christian principles. Christianity is under attack more and more these days so if you want to play a role in making your faith more visible, then join us for a fun gathering for an hour or two. We hope to see you Tuesday.
WELCOME TO FIFTH AVENUE! At FACC, we focus on loving God, loving people, and turning the world upside down.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:
Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).
Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.
Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
