On September 1, we have an opportunity to hike the Blackhand Gorge Trail in Newark, OH and raise money for the National Center for Children and Families as well as support a local charity. We are looking for a team or teams of 6 to 10 people. You may hike the entire trail out and back for a total of 8.5 miles or any increment that you would like. This trail is 4.25 miles in length and there is parking available at both ends. This is in conjunction with One Voice Trekking. The fee for each team is $300. If the teams have 10 people that will be $30 per person. We also ask that you bring a canned food item to benefit a local food pantry. If you are unable to hike with us but would like to contribute toward the fee that would be a wonderful way to assist this charity that ministers to children and families in need. We will meet at the church building at 8 a.m. If you would like to participate, a signup sheet will be posted on the bulletin board or you may contact Scott Brown.

THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

Hi Everyone! Allow me to say thanks for all those who recognized my birthday and our anniversary this past week. Your kind words were greatly appreciated. We love the church! Our love for the church got me to thinking about this verse. Matthew 16:18 - Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it! There are two things to consider The church is ALIVE! The Church is a living, breathing, growing organism--not an organization, hobbled by ironclad traditions! (Read 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4.) Each part of the human body has its part to play. There is no "hierarchy" in the body's parts. Ultimately, the "head" (brain) "calls all the shots" for the proper functioning of the body. The church must be built on the SOLID ROCK! Christ alone is the foundation. The foundation for the Church was laid with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the building began with the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2). Because the power of death was broken at the cross, the building of the church will go on, living stone by living stone, until the building is complete. The gates of hell will not prevail against it. May we be known for having a faith that is alive and built on the firm foundation, the Solid Rock, Jesus Christ. Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

LAST CHANCE: Today (August 19) is your final opportunity to sign up for our August 22 trip to Mansfield and a visit to BibleWalk. We still have seats available and would love to have you join us. This is an inspirational presentation of the Bible in a life size wax museum. Our departure time is 8:00 am. The cost for travel and admission is just $10 per person. Following our tour, we will be having lunch at the Der Dutchman Restaurant, in Bellville. They offer a lunch buffet or you may order from the menu. A sign-up sheet is posted. Early payment will be appreciated. NEW HORIZONS RETREAT: You may still register for this senior activity which is held at the North Terrace Church of Christ, in Zanesville. However, registration will now be $25 per person. The folks at North Terrace have always provided an excellent program, entertainment and food. The date, this year, is Tuesday, September 11. The registration fee includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Our departure time is 7:30 am and our return, approximately, mid-afternoon. A sign-up sheet is now posted (along with registration forms). Complete a registration form and give it to me, along with your registration fee. Do this early, as registrations are limited. WEDNESDAYS: Our 10:00 am & 6:30 pm study groups will be returning on September 12. Our topic, for the first several weeks, will be The Church Through The Centuries. I do hope you will plan to join us.
SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY:

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
Over the next several weeks I will be exploring the idea of worship as a lifestyle that honors God, encourages our brothers and sisters in Christ, guards our hearts against temptation and enables an evangelistic fulfillment of the great commission. When we as Christ followers fill our days with prayer and heartfelt worship, we have set our minds on things above and engaged in a mindset that gives us a different perspective. This provides us a basis for inexpressible joy and peace that passes understanding in whatever circumstance we face. When we understand that giving our lives to Jesus means total surrender, we have freedom to declare His worth in everything we face. More on this topic in the coming weeks.. In and for Him, Scott

In August, these sessions are being replaced with some very special guest speakers. I urge you to be a part of these Sunday evening events. FINAL THOUGHT: The real worth of a person is determined by what that person does when there is nothing to do.

100 Crosses This Tuesday, August 21, we are encouraging anyone who can cut, staple or prime wooden crosses to be at the church pole barn no later than 5:30 p.m. At our Sunday school picnic, Lowell shared a goal of assembling 100 crosses for people to place in a strategic spot in their lawn or flower beds to remind our community that this was a nation founded upon Christian principles. Christianity is under attack more and more these days so if you want to play a role in making your faith more visible, then join us for a fun gathering for an hour or two. We hope to see you Tuesday.

WELCOME TO FIFTH AVENUE! At FACC, we focus on loving God, loving people, and turning the world upside down.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Sermon Notes ________________________

________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ______________________________________

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today? ____

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
