Overview
Stream video over your IP network with GE Securitys line of SymNet encoders and decoders, used for video monitoring and surveillance. SymNet can be set up to encode analog video to MPEG-4 digital video or decode digital streaming video to analog signal. Plug existing analog devices into SymNet to use them on a digital network. SymNet provides an excellent way to begin building a digital security network without replacing all your analog equipment. Built-in MPEG-4 compression technology allows SymNet to deliver high-quality video, synchronized audio and data over any 10/100 BaseT Ethernet network. Analog cameras, monitors, and keyboards can all be connected to a network using a SymNet unit and twistedpair Ethernet cable. Other peripheral devices can also be connected to SymNet for increased functionality. Alarm devices, audio inputs and outputs, RS-485 devices and serial data lines can all interface with SymNet. Use the built-in serial port to control pan/tilt/zoom cameras from a networked PC or from a connected keyboard. SymNet also includes a connection for direct hookup of an external analog monitor and an Ethernet port for plugging into the network. The Ethernet port can be used for remote configuration and flash upgrades. LED indicators on SymNet visually display when the power is on, as well as data activity on the Ethernet port, transmission of data, and receipt of data. SymNet works with GE Securitys family of IP devices, including the SymVeo IP camera, SymDec and SymSafe line of hybrid video recorders and SymSecure network software. SymNet is available in a cage version (SymNet-5R), which allows for up to 12 channels of video encoding or decoding, or a deskor wall-mount version (SymNet 1-5RC).
