TheLoudounMath&ITAcademy,whichwouldhousegradessixththrough12th.Thecharter schoolwouldbelocatedintheDullesDistrictoffRoute50.Otherproposedareasincludeanew developmentinArcolaCenter. TheLoudounMath&ITAcademyisahomegrowncharterschool.Thisisagroupofparents thattooktimeoutoftheirtrips,takingcareoftheirfamilies,toresearchdifferentoptionsto modifydifferentmodelsforcharterschool,MindyWilliams,whosbeenworkingdirectlywith thoseinvolvedwiththeproposedcharterschool.WilliamspresentedapowerpointtotheSchool BoardduringtheirAug.14meeting. Webelieveweshouldbeeducatingourchildren,notfortodaysjobmarketorforacademic programsintodayscollegesanduniversities,butforthoseofatleastfivetotenyearsfromnow, shecontinued. WithatentativeopendateofAugust2013,theschoolwouldbeownedbyBuchananPartners,a contractingcompanybasedoutofGaithersburg,Md.Theschoolwouldhaveaspecializedfocus onscience,technology,engineeringandmathematics,orSTEM,andwouldofferspecialized classesforatrisk,specialeducation,careerandtechnicaleducationandgiftededucation, accordingtotheirapplicationsubmittedtothestate. Oureducationalmodelistoaddressindividuallearningstylesandneedsofeverychild,and whenIsayallkids,Imeanspecialneedskids,bytheuseoftechnologyintheclassroomfrom bothkidsateachendofthespectrum.,Williamssaid.Theschoolwillseektointegrate technologyinallthecoreareasinacomprehensive,yetengagingway.Therewillbearigorous curriculumacrosstheboard. Williamssaidtherewouldbeatotalof672studentsintheschoolor96studentspergrade. ThecharterschoolismodeledafterChesapeakeSciencePointPublicCharterSchoollocatedin AnneArundelCounty,Md. Onethingthatisuniqueaboutacharterschoolischoice.Fortheteachers,thekidsandthe families.Sowhatyouseeisamuchhigherlevelofengagementacrosstheboard.Webelievethat thiswillhelpclosetheachievementgap,Williamsstated.Werelookingtoholdinformation sessionswithinthecountytogettheirfeedback. TheSchoolBoardwillnowappointcommitteememberstooverseethecharterschool applicationprocessandholdhearingsforthepublic. Ibelievetheapplicationwillbesubmitted[Aug.15,]ChairmanEricHornberger(Ashburn) said.Ourstaffwillhavetwomonthstoreviewtheapplicationandprovidefeedback.
