S a s k a t o o n , S K - A well-known Canadian artist and author is placing a number of original paintings up for sale in anticipation of a major transition in the artists career. Beate Epp, whose paintings are known for their expressiveness and dramatic use of colours, is shortly moving to Mexico. She and her husband will be opening up a raw and vegan B&B retreat in the Yucatan Peninsula. The art sale will provide collectors with a rare opportunity to own pieces that have never been offered to the public before, says Epp: These are not paintings I would normally even be putting up for sale. Theyre pieces I just love. But were facing such a large move with all our animals that we had to make some tough decisions. Beate originally hails from Germany, but has called Canada her home for 12 years. Leaving the country has not been an easy decision for the artist, who has found inspiration in so many aspects of her life here. Its part of the reason she is selling a number of her works: As hard as it is for me to part with many of these pieces, I would really like them to stay here, in the country. So many of the pieces were influenced by Canadian life and the natural beauty of this land, it seems only fitting that they be appreciated by the people living in the places that helped inspire them. Epps work was profiled in New Yorks Gallery & Studio magazine and likened to the work of Georgia OKeefe, Marsden Hartley and Rockwell Kent. Several of the pieces up for sale are inspired by her popular childrens book The Magical Horses, the sequel to which is due out this fall. Artist, writer, and holistic healer Beate Epp lives with her husband Paul, on their Organic Art and Healing farm in Saskatchewan, Canada. She loves nature and being with her horses, cats, and dogs. Be it with her colourful paintings, her imaginative stories, or with holistic therapies she offers, people are encouraged to look within, for empowerment and guidance. This is also true for the newly created sculpture and meditation path on their farm; created in the ancient tradition of spiritual art, giving thanks to creation, in and around us. The New York art magazine Gallery & Studio writes Epps emotionally charged oils and acrylics, with their vibrant colors, rugged paint handling, and bold forms, are at once refreshingly direct and aesthetically knowing in away that calls painters like Georgia OKeeffe and Marsden Hartley, as well as Rockwell Kent (best known for his pen and ink illustrations for Moby Dick and other classics but actually one of our most magnificent nature painters).
