Tallahassee Community College CGS 1060: COMPUTER LITERACY EXEMPTION EXAM No Exams given during Final Exam Week
Student Information Note: You may take as long as 2 hours to complete the test. Objective: To allow students who possess adequate computer skills using the Microsoft Office Suite applications, e-mail and the Internet to obtain 3 elective credits for the completion of CGS1060 by passing an exemption exam. Procedure: Step 1: Pay a $15 TCC Fee at Cashiers Office (Student Union room 278). You will receive an exemption exam receipt. You must bring a copy of the receipt with you when you register with Ms. Mellino, staff assistant for Computer Technology. (see Step #3). Step 2: Purchase SAM Keycode and CD ($52.41) Purchase at TCC Bookstore or Bills on Pensacola. The CD includes training materials and the keycode is used to register for the exam. b) You must install the SAM CD at home and follow the instructions for entering your name and information with the KEYCODE (password). c) Create a login and password that you can remember. You will need to know your login and password when you take the exam at the Testing Center. d) The TCC institution code is S3916264. During the installation process, join the section called Exemption. NOTE: You cannot take the exam at the Testing Center until you have installed the CD (see b and c above) AND made an appointment for the actual exam through Kathleen Mellino (see Step #3). Keycodes are non-refundable.

Step 3: Bring your cashiers receipt to the TCC Computer Technology Building, Second Floor, to the Receptionist Area to register for the exam with Ms. Mellino. She will e-mail the testing center when you have completed the above steps. Call 201-8495 (Ms. Kathleen Mellino) for her office hours and/or for directions. Step 4: You must pre-schedule a testing date with the Testing Center. Call 201-8282 or go directly to that office which is located in the Fine and Performing Arts Building, second floor in room 208. Step 5:On the day of the exam bring your TCC picture ID, your cashiers receipt (#1), login and password for SAM (purchased in Step #2) to the TCC Testing Center (located in the Fine and Performing Arts Building on the second floor in RM 208).

Students are provided ONE opportunity to pass the exemption exam Exam appointments can only be rescheduled twice. Your opportunity to take the Exemption Exam may be forfeited if you cancel or reschedule more than two times. Students receiving 80% or greater on the exam will be granted exemption from CGS 1060 and receive 3 elective credit hours with a grade of "S" (satisfactory) toward their degree or certificate. 4. Students need to contact Ms. Mellino when they have completed the exam. The CGS1060 Exemption Examination consists of two Parts. Part I: Multiple choice questions on computer concepts using SAM online program (20% of exam). This portion of the exam covers basic computing concepts such as hardware, software, computer components and the operating system, managing files and folders, networks and the Internet, ethics and data security. Part II: Performance tasks using SAM online program. The CGS1060 Exemption Examination also contains several computer-related activities covering the following topics (80% of the exam). Word 2003 1) opening program and file; 2) formatting text by: changing font attributes, font face, font size, margins, line spacing, and justification; 3) inserting footnotes, headers, and page numbers; 4) boxing and shading; and 4) printing files. Excel 2003 1) opening program and file; 2) formatting text by: changing font size, inserting borders, aligning text, changing column width, using sum formula to sum values, using average formula to average values, formatting numbers, inserting/deleting columns and rows; 3) copying formulas and 3) printing files in different views showing formulas/values. Access 2003 1) opening program and file; 2) using different elements of the Access window; 3) navigating through a database creating, editing, adding new data and printing data; 4) using design view and datasheet view; 5) formatting datasheets (table, query, form and report). PowerPoint 2003 1) opening program; 2) create a presentation; 3) adding clipart; 4) creating a bulleted list; 5) add animations; 6) apply slide transitions; 7) add speaker notes; 8) change layout of slide; and 9) print the presentation as handout on one page.

*The CD-ROM disk purchased for the exam provides you with access to training and practice exams. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD drive. If the CD does not automatically start then: Click Start, then run, and then type D:\setup.exe (D is your CD-ROM Drive) Type OK. Click Install SAM 2003 and then follow the instructions on your screen. You will need the TCC institution code which is S3916264 to use the CD. The password for the Training is: exemption.
