COMPANY PROFILE
OVERVIEW:
The Jawaharlal Nehru Port at New Bombay (formerly known as the Nhava Sheva Port, Uran) was established on 26th May 1989. It was dedicated to the Nation by Ex. Prime Minister of India, Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi. The Port became operational from that date. Constructed in a record time of just 3 years with a cost of round Rs. 1000 crores, it is the only Indian Port built to international standards with modern working norms. Because of its high level of automation and computerized functioning it was envisaged, as the hi-tech port of the 21st century. Ever since its inception, JNP has charted Indias international trade to a glorious course of success and achievements, breaking all records and creating new benchmarks. JNP emerges as the biggest container handling Port in India, handling around 60% of the countrys containerized cargo, crossing historic landmark of 4 million TEUs in container throughput. In its coveted role as the Hub Port on the Western Coast of India, JNP is ranked 24th among the top 100 Container Ports in the world. It has set for itself a long term goal of achieving 10 million TEUs by the year 201415.

With its strong commitment to provide seamless service to its customers as Indias prime facilitator of international trade, JNP strives to be the undisputed leader in the South Asian region in years to come.

LOCATION:
The Jawaharlal Nehru Port is situated along the eastern shore of Bombay Harbour Southeast of the Elephanta island. JNP shares a common channel with the Bombay Port upto the point of entry of the South Elephanta Channel. It is approximately 10 nautical miles from Gateway of India, the famous landmark of Bombay.

AREA:
JNP has land area of about 2584 hectares. Out of which 1145 hectares of land is exclusively reserved for greenery and mangroves. Functioning of the port is presently carried on 200 hectares. JN Port has a maritime area of about 52 sq. km. in natural water.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
JN Port is one of the greenest port of India. Recipient of INDIRA PRIYADARSHINI VRIKSHAMITRA AWARD in the year 1996. Computerized operations with single window operations system.

ABOUT PORT:
The performance of the port as a whole is the aggregate of the performance of its individual terminals. And the three terminals that Port Trust run are Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal(JNPCT), Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal(NSICT) and Gateway Terminals India Pvt. Ltd.(GTIPL), which have been doing exceedingly well, setting and breaking records of their own over the years. The contribution of the individual terminals of JNP in the total of 3.95 million TEUs were 1.06 million TEUs handled by JNPCT, 1.43 million TEUs handled by NSICT and 1.46 million TEUs handled by GTIPL.

Strengths: JNPT has huge area of 2584 hectares. Handles 60% of Indias total containerized cargo.

Ranks 1st in India and 24th among World Container Ports. Good infrastructure. Good connectivity through land, rail and water.

Weaknesses: Delay in implementation of decisions as it needs government approvals. Equipments of JNPT.

Opportunities: Good scope for expansion of work. Can build more terminals which can handle maximum number of TEUs. Deepening and widening of existing channel to accommodate new generation vessel.

Threats: Development of private port at western coast of India. World wide recession.

FINDINGS
The analysis that was made during the project at JNPT is as follows: Reliability: Reliability means the ability to perform the assured service reliably and accurately. According to the analysis, it was found that JNPT is reliable and performs the service first time but lacks with commitments in a timely manner. Empathy: According to the analysis done, it was found out that the JNPT understands the specific needs of customers & also has convenient service features for their customers. Responsiveness: Responsiveness is the willingness to help customers and provide prompt service. According to the customers JNPT informs customer exactly when services will be performed and are always willing to help the customers. Behaviour: According to the analysis done, it was found out that the behavior of officers & staff of JNPT is courteous & also instills confidence in customer. Assurance: According to the customers, they feel safe in dealing with the officers & staff of JNPT. Also Officers & staff of JNPT have the knowledge to answer customers questions. Personal Attention: According to the analysis done, it was found out that the JNPT gives personal attention to their customers so as to maintain the public relations.

Interest: According to the analysis done, it was found out that the JNPT shows best interest for their customers but shows less interest in solving customers problems/difficulty. Equipments: According to the analysis done, it was found out that, JNPT have modern equipments but no proper maintenance is been done. Tangibles: Tangible means appearance of physical facilities & also personnel and communication materials. JNPT has good tangibles, & it projects a professional image.

SUGGESTIONS / RECOMMENDATIONS
JNPT should keep constant dialogue and regular interaction with customers. They should pay attention to the needs of the customer and fine tune their operations accordingly. They should assume that the ship responsibility is completely their once it enters the port premises. A special training should be given to the officers and staff such like classroom training, public speaking, etc. who deal with public relations, as they are the link between the organization and the customers. Seminar should be held on regular basis to inspire/motivate the employees and also give them updates about the organization. JNPT needs to follow through the commitments of services in timely manner so as to maintain the public relations which results in growth of the business. JNPT needs to show sincere interest in solving customers problem/difficulty so as to maintain the public relations. JNPT needs to give response to customers request as early as possible so as to maintain the public relations. Lubrication of the equipments should be done from time to time so as to keep the equipments in good condition.

CONCLUSION
From the data analysis and interpretation the following conclusions were made: According to the customers JNPT gives the customers prompt services so as to maintain the public relations which results in growth of the business. According to the customers JNPT has the willingness to help customers so as to maintain the public relations which results in growth of the business. According to the customers behavior of officers & staff of JNPT with customers is very good that maintains the public relations which results in growth of the business. According to the customers commitments related to services of JNPT are average. According to the customers JNPT gives personal attention to every customer that maintains the public relations. According to the customers JNPT has customers best interest at heart but they show less interest in solving customers problems/difficulty. According to the customers JNPT insists on error free records. According to the customers JNPT is very reliable. According to the customers JNPT projects a professional image.
