NATIONAL PARKS WEEK The national Park week is aimed at KRUGER NATIONAL celebrating and recognizing national PARK , LOSKOP AND SONGIMVELO GAME parks and Game reserves as a sector RESERVES in tourism. The Festive Season Consumer Campaign is aimed at raising awareness about the Mpumalanga Brand. It further seeks to encourage potential travelers especially from Gauteng to visit the destination during

the festive season. The campaign will run for three months starting in September (coinciding with Tourism Month) and finishing in November. A series of advertisements about various experiences in the destination will be run on platforms such as radio, weekend newspapers as well as on-line. Wakkerstroom is one of South Africa's premier birding destinations. Bird watching is one of the activities that are considered to be less important among certain ethnic groups. This is one of the major tourist attractions in the province and is contributing immensely in the growth of our economy. MTPA identified the necessity to create more awareness to communities on domestic tourism and encourage them to appreciate the amenities that surrounds them. Invite learners to a birdwatching session to encourage domestic tourism and for learners to learn more about birds like Blue Crane, Blue Korhaan, Rudd's

Getting close to nature, having fun and challenging adventurers is what 4x4 driving is all about, and Mpumalanga is filled with untamed beauty to discover. There are numerous fantastic 4X4 trails in this beautiful Province such as Riverwild, Ebutsini, Luphisi, Mac Mac summit route, and so on. NELSPRUIT 20 SEPTEMBER Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) will be conducting Tourism school competition for grade 11 and learners. The tourism schools competition will be conducted with an intention to create awareness on tourism issues. The theme of the competition is Tourism and Sustainability Energy Powering sustainable Development. The competition is designed so that it is easy for learners to enter. Learners must complete a simple assignment which will be assessed against rubrics that will be provided to educators. This competition is open to all public and private secondary schools in Mpumalanga inviting students to express their ideas, thought and creativity and art. The competition is aimed at educating young people about tourism, stimulate excitement and interest about the industry and expose students to the numerous career options that are available in the tourism industry. It also strives to educate primary and early secondary school children about the importance of tourism in their region as well as

developing their writing and presentation skills and enhancing their knowledge about their respective towns. The aim is instil a pride amongst the youth of being involved in tourism and saving our environment. 28&29 SEPTMEBER TOURISM SAFETY ROADSHOW The level of crime in Mpumalanga is unfortunately high and cases of crime such as robbery, assault car highjackings, theft and pickpocketing occur everywhere in the province. Most cases of crime received high profile in the media which in turn discouraged tourists from visiting not only the Province. A roadshow that will focus on issues affecting safety of tourists will be conducted in areas that are higly affected by crime targeted at tourists. There is a pressing need to raise safety standard in the entire tourism industry and to improve the countrys image as a destination. Areas to be covered during the roadshow are Kanyamazane, Kabokweni, Nelspruit, Mkhuhlu, white river, Hazyview and Bushbuckridge.
