Island Solar has reviewed the roofing on the Education centre, orientation of the roof, surrounding shade and do not believe a this is a cost effective place to install additional panels. Roof appears to be much older where material and structural integrity is questionable, particularly supporting additional weight Orientation would require the addition of a tilt kit which adds cost, weight & significant time to the installation There are significant trees surrounding the lower roof impacting the solar/sun exposure window For these reasons no proposal is being put forward for this roof.

There are an additional 2-3 roofing areas which may be suitable, with tilt kits, for increasing the solar PV installation size. These include the Group meeting room, passage way/change room facilities, above the store room. All 3 would require tilt kits. No assessment has been done on these roofs as the additional costs would include cabling, conduit, tilt kits which will mean the cost per watt for installing here will be marginally higher.

Island Solar have composed a work method statement to cover all of the activities associated with the proposed installation at the Koala Conservation Centre. The nominated activities under this scope are as follows; 1. Installation of temporary stairwell to access roof area. 2. Installation of scaffolding planks, static line and temporary construction fencing 3. Preparation of working surface, cleaning of roof 4. Installation of PV racking 5. Installation of PV panels 6. Installation of conduit/DC solar cable 7. Installation of DC isolators, DC circuit breakers, DC connector box 8. Installation of Inverter/AC distribution board 9. Installation of conduit/AC cable 10. Testing of system 11. Site demobilisation 12. Completion of certificate of electrical safety, inspection, submission of application to electricity retailer for grid connect. These activities will be completed by the responsible designer. 13. Environmental controls

Temporary Stairwell to be installed to facilitate safe roof access for solar panel installation

Scaffold, steps and static line to be installed to meet safe work at heights requirements

Included with the SMA inverter system are the components necessary to establish a web based status monitoring system - due to the nature of the Conservation Park, as well as energy generation, temperature and wind speed sensors are alse being proposed and are included in the scope of supply.

Consumer guide to buying household solar panels (photovoltaic panels)

What sort of panels should I buy?
There are four main types of solar panel available, each with their own benefits. During the design and specification stage, your accredited designer will help you choose which type is the best to suit your needs: 1. Mono Crystalline (monocrystalline c-Si) These panels are a proven technology that has been in use for over 50 years. They are commonly used where space is limited, or where there are high costs associated with installing large panels. They have a very slow degradation, generally losing 0.25 - 0.5% per year.

2. Poly Crystalline (polycrystalline c-Si) These panels are similar to Mono Crystalline panels, but the silicon used is Multi-Crystalline which is easier to make. They are comparable to Mono Crystalline in performance and durability. Slightly more panels are required to produce a given amount of electricity.

3. Thin Film Thin Film panels have been in production for over ten years. These panels are typically nearly double the size than the other panel varieties. Research is continuing to improve the performance of Thin Film panels and to refine the manufacturing process. They respond well to slightly diffuse light and their efficiency does not drop on hot days. The most common varieties of Thin Film panels are: Cadmium Telluride Thin-Film panels (CdTe) Copper Indium Gallium Selenide Thin-Film panels (CIGS) Amorphous silicon Thin-Film panels(a-Si)

8.1 Determine the wind region of your installation site

RegionDefinition:

Wind regions are pre defined for all of Australia by Australian Standard 1170. The Wind Region has nothing to do with surrounding topography or buildings. Most of Australia is designated Region A which indicates a Regional Ultimate Basic Wind Velocity of 45msec. Some areas are designated Region B (57msec). Local authorities will advise if this applies in your area. Region C areas (66msec) are generally referred to as Cyclonic and are generally limited to northern coastal areas. Most Region C zones end 100km inland. Region D (80msec) Australia's worst Cyclonic Region between Carnarvon and Pardoo in Western Australia.

8.2. Determine the height of the of your installation site This document provides sufficient information for Grace solar system installation height less than 20 meters. If your installation site is more than 20 meters in height, please contact Grace solar to obtain engineering data to support your installation.

Installation Height Max area of one panel Roof Area 5 Meters 10 Meters 15 Meters 20 Meters Region A (mm) 3.0m2 Center Zone 2130 1940 1840 1740 Edge Zone 1500 1370 1230 Region B (mm) 2.5m2 Center Zone 1690 1540 1460 1380 Edge Zone 1200 1090 980 Region C (mm) 2.0m2 Center Zone 1380 1260 1190 1130 Edge Zone 980 890 800 Region D (mm) 1.5m2 Center Zone 1080 990 940 890 Edge Zone

The above figures are based on modules lengths of up to 1970mm, maximum weight of 15Kg/m2 1650mm modules requires 2 rails with fixing as per table above The above spacing applies for fixing through thin sheet purlins (greater than 1.0mm thickness) or a minimum embedment of 50mm into timber purlins. Tile brackets should fixed to the rafter using two 12g mounting screws (M6x80mm) For 35mm embedment into timber of fixings into 0.55mm thickness steel for regions A+B remain unchanged. For regions C reduce the spacing by 15%. For region D reduce the spacing by 35%. In case the wooden rafters/trusses you wish to mount on are too thin and the screws would be too close to the edge of the rafters please pre-drill with a 3~4mm drill in order to avoid the splitting of the timber ( or use the side mount roof hook).

b. Please use the following table to determine the base rail support spacing for Tin roof installations.

Warranty Conditions
If a device becomes defective during the agreed SMA factory warranty period and provided that it will not be impossible or unreasonable, the device will be, as selected by SMA, repaired by SMA, or repaired on-site, or exchanged for a replacement device of equivalent value according to model and age. In the latter case, the remainder of the warranty entitlement will be transferred to the replacement device. In this case, you do not receive a new certicate since your entitlement is documented at SMA. Excessiveness in the meaning above exists in particular if the cost of the measures for SMA would be unreasonable in view of the value that the device would have without the defect, taking into account the signicance of the defect, and after consideration of alternative workaround possibilities that SMA customers could revert to without signicant inconvenience. The factory warranty includes the costs of SMA for work and material for the restoration of faultless functioning in SMA's factory or for on-site repair work by SMA personnel. All other costs, particularly shipping costs, travel, and accommodation costs of SMA personnel for on-site repairs as well as costs of the customer's own employees are not included in the factory warranty. With the installation of devices for private use by natural persons in the EU region, Switzerland, Australia, China, Korea, Croatia, New Zealand, Norway and the US, the factory warranty also includes shipping costs or travel and accommodation costs of SMA service personnel for on-site repairs. If this point of installation is located outside the above mentioned countries or in overseas locations of these countries, no shipping, travel, or accommodation costs will be borne. To determine the warranty entitlement, please submit a copy of the purchasing invoice or a copy of the warranty certicate, if necessary including the receipt of the warranty extension. The type plate on the device must be completely legible. Otherwise, SMA is entitled to refuse to provide warranty services. Please report defective devices with a brief error description to our SMA Serviceline. If we agree to a replacement, we generally send an equivalent replacement device, packaged appropriately for transport, within 2 working days. The defective device is to be packed in this transport packaging for return transport to SMA. All warranty services are free of charge only if the course of action was agreed with SMA in advance.

Scope of the Factory Warranty

The factory warranty does not cover damages that occur due to the following reasons: Transport damage Incorrect installation or commissioning Failure to observe the user manual, the installation guide, and the maintenance regulations Modications, changes, or attempted repairs Incorrect use or inappropriate operation Insucient ventilation of the device Failure to observe the applicable safety regulations (VDE standards, etc.) Force majeure (e.g., lightning, overvoltage, storm, re) Neither does it cover cosmetic defects which do not inuence the energy production. Claims that go beyond the rights cited in the warranty conditions, in particular claims for compensation for direct or indirect damages arising from the defective device, for compensation for costs arising from disassembly and installation, or loss of prots are not covered by the factory warranty, insofar SMA is not subject to statutory liability. In such cases, please contact the company that sold you the device. Possible claims in accordance with the law on product liability remain unaffected. PV Array row spacing

I need to quote on a PV system on a flat roof. The PV modules will be on tilted frames facing true North to optimise energy production How do I calculate the distance between PV Array rows to avoid winter mid-day shading ? Remembering back to high school math classes there was something called Trigonometry NOW YOU HAVE A USE FOR IT for any right angle triangle if you know one angle and the length of any side you can calculate the length of the other two sides.

refer to the diagram below

1. You know the length of the PV module - from the manufacturers data and you have selected the optimum tilt angle. e.g. 1600mm and 30 2. You then calculate height X e.g. Sin Tilt = X / 1600 X = Sin 30 x 1600mm = 0.5 x 1600 = 800mm It is recommended that the row spacing avoids shading between 10:00am and 2:00pm at the Winter Solstice ( ~ June 22 )
refer to Table 1 on page 2.

hy po to ne us e

Cos a = A / H Sin a = O / H Tan a = O / A

3. the minimum spacing (Y) between rows can now be determined

-H

opposite - O

Row spacing Y = X x Cos ( azimuth angle ) Tan ( altitude angle ) e.g. The PV array is located in SYDNEY - Latitude 34S Azimuth = 31 and Altitude = 26 Y = X x Cos 31 / Tan 26 = 800mm x 1.757 = 1406 mm
NOTE : This calculation gives the MINIMUM row spacing to avoid 10:00am to 2:00pm shading at the Winter solstice ( ~ June 22 )

angle a adjacent - A
