same name by Liz Jones that appeared in Daily Mail on 17
th
of January 2011 and has been widely
criticised by the Daily Mail readers and liberal media alike for its supposed tastelessness and an
attempt to combine a murder story with a gastronomical review. Although an undoubtedly failing
piece of journalism, the incoherent plot line, bizarre conclusions reached in the text, author's
absurd experiences (Liz Jones trying to pay for the crossing of the toll bridge with a button) and
manic fixation on the subject of young women in various activities, makes the article a fascinating
read when taken out of the tragic context. In my music I was trying to relate to the absurdist
nature of the article and the profound tastes of the Daily Mail readership alike through the
combination of wondering, semi-tonal harmonic language and vocal styles ranging from music
theatre to sprechstimme.
