for children, ages 2-12 with disabilities Tom Sykes Rec Center, 1501 Euclid Avenue October 13-November 17 (Saturdays) Ages 2-6 1:00-1:45; Ages 7-12 1:45-2:30 $30 for the 6-week class Shannon.Maxwell@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov This energizing Music Therapy group will teach kids about different sounds and music patterns, creating music, expressing feelings through songs, and sharing fun with friends. Schools Out Club for Youth

Didnt have enough fun this summer? Then join us for a fun and exciting afternoon at CAROWINDS. Please note criteria for participation: Independent in restroom and self-care. Ability to maintain group pace. Independent mobility (ambulatory or wheel chair) and ability to transfer without assistance.

Wilderness Bunch
for teens & young adults with disabilities, ages 16-35 Drop off / Pick up at Marion Diehl Recreation Center 2219 Tyvola Road Camping and day trips from McDowell Nature Preserve Saturday-Sunday, October 13th-14th 8:30 am (Saturday) - 4:30 pm (Sunday) $125.00 for the weekend Karen.Howard@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov Abigail.Bergman@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov Wilderness Bunch is designed to teach basic skills needed for tent camping and participating in outdoor recreation. Day trips include hiking and nature lessons. Participants should be independent in self care. Participants will need to bring: toiletries, towel, change of clothes, bathing suit, a sleeping bag, and a flash light.

Spill Your Beans provides the opportunity for young women to talk about and gain support for issues theyre facing in their lives, such as health & safety, independent living, relationships, friendships, and self-esteem (participants will have the opportunity to choose the topics to learn about). Each month we will host a guest speaker or lead a discussion about issues that are important to you.

Join us for instructional cooking classes with a "side order" of fun and conversation! Each 1-day class has a different focus - in addition to learning or improving basic cooking skills, participants will learn about kitchen safety and hygiene; making healthy food choices; and proper food handling and storage practices.

for young men with disabilities ages 18-35 Marion Diehl Recreation Center Tuesday, October 9th 6:00pm-8:00pm $10.00 per meeting Ariel.Kliem@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov Do you need a night out with the guys to relax and enjoy new activities? Come hang out with "Band of Brothers" every Wednesday night from 6-8pm. You can practice social skills, meet new people, enjoy community outings and develop positive relationships, all while enjoying some "guy time".

Participants will have the opportunity to work on dribbling, shooting, and passing. A scrimmage will be played at the end of every session.

Davidson Street October 9 (Tuesday) note 2nd Tuesday! 7:00 8:00 p.m. FREE (participants may purchase food if desired) Karen.Howard@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov A monthly group for parents, guardians, and caregivers that is facilitated by a Therapeutic Recreation staff person but is directed by the group members. This FREE informal group gives participants the opportunity to meet and talk with other parents and caregivers who are experiencing the challenges of parenting a child, teen or young adult with a disability. Note our new location and time!

VIP Travel Club


for adults and seniors, ages 35 and up, with a visual impairment Pick-up/Drop-off locations: Marion Diehl Recreation Center (MDRC), 2219 Tyvola Road Metrolina Association for the Blind (MAB), 704 Louise Avenue October 24 (Wednesday) Greenway Tour and Historic Latta Plantation Pick-up: MDRC @ 9:00 a.m., MAB @ 9:30 a.m. Drop-off: MAB @ 3:30 p.m., MDRC @ 4:00 p.m. $15.00 each date Karen.Howard@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov Enjoy a social day with friends, while building independence in the community.
