I thank you in name of the most ancient order of monks in the world; I thank you in the name of the mother of religions; and I thank you in the name of millions and millions of Hindu people of all classes and sects. I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and universal acceptance. We believe not only in universal toleration but we accept all religions as true. I am proud to belong to a nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all religions and all nations of the earth. I am proud to tell you that we have gathered in our bosom the purest remnant of the Israelites who came to Southern India and took refuge with us in very year in which their holy temple was shattered I will quote to you brethren a few lines from a hymn which I remember to have repeated from my earliest childhood, which is every day repeated by millions of human beings: 'As the different streams having their sources in different places all mingle their water in the sea, so, O Lord, the different paths which men take through different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to Thee. The present convention, which is one of the most august assemblies ever held, is in itself a vindication, a declaration to the world of the wonderful doctrine preached in the Gita: 'Whosoever comes to me, though whatsoever form, I reach him; all men are struggling through paths which in the end lead to me.

malice must be totally eschewed. If love becomes the grounding principle of all deeds, then most of the ills of the world will vanish. We know many faults we commit, even if others do not know them. Sometimes we realise we are doing so many evil things and repent bitterly and feel why we should be born . Our duty is to pray to God -"I have committed so many faults. Will you not, 0 God, give me the will power not do like that in future and will you not purify my mind?" We must note down in a diary every night before we go to bed the faults committed by us and pray to God to give us courage and intelligence not to do so. This must be propagated widely.

Swamijis 1893 speech continues...

in itself a vindication, a declaration to the world of the wonderful doctrine preached in the Gita: 'Whosoever comes to me, though whatsoever form, I reach him; all men are struggling through paths which in the end lead to me. Sectarianism, bigotry, and it's horrible descendant, fanaticism, have long possessed this beautiful Earth. They have filled the earth with violence, drenched it often and often with human blood, destroyed civilization, and sent whole nations to despair. Had it not been for these horrible demons, human society would be far more advanced than it is now. But their time is come; and I fervently hope that the bell that tolled this morning in honor of this convention may be the death-knell of all fanaticism, of all persecutions with the sword or with the pen, and of all uncharitable feelings between persons wending their way to the same goal..

Thiruvalanchuzhi Temple
Thiruvalanchuzhi is about 7 Kms from Kumbakonam. It is few minutes of walk from Swami Malai temple. When Devas and Asuras churned the ocean for Amrutham there were lots of obstacles in their task. Divine sage Narada adviced Devas to pray Lord Ganesh who removes all obstracles. King Indran made an idol of Ganesh from the froth of the ocean. Devas now got the Amrutham and from then on Indran prayed to that idol of Ganesha. Once when he kept it near river Cauvery river and when he could not take the idol, he understood it was the will of God and from then on we are blessed to worship him and it is believed, Indran comes once in a year to pray Ganesh here. River Cauvery flows keeping Ganesh on right side and so the temple got name Thiruvalanchuzhi. Kanchi Mahaswamigal says in Deivathin Kural, that this temple is like the Ganeshas rajadhani or capital. The granite sculpture in front of this Ganesha is a brilliant work and is not seen elsewhere in country such a master piece.

A child of Allah and Ram Kabir

Saint Kabir lived in 14th century in Varanasi. Brought up by Muslim parents he took Hindu saint Ramanand as his spiritual Guru. He lived by weaving, and composed many divine poems which are revered for the expression of divinity and purity of love for God. His life and message was to express the divinity of God in Hindu and Islam. His simple message for both Hindus and Muslims was to Purify Hearts, go beyond names and forms . Hey brother, why do you want me to talk? Talk and talk and the real things get lost. Talk and talk and things get out of hand. Why not stop talking and think? If you meet someone good, listen a little, speak; If you meet someone bad, clench up like a fist. Talking with a wise man is a great reward. Talking with a fool? A waste. Kabir says: A pot makes noise if it's half full, But fill it to the brim -- no sound.
