CHAPTER IV FINDING AND DISCUSSION This chapter presents the findings and discussion of the research.

The findings of the research involve the portrait of the result of data collection and the discussion is to explain the findings. A. Findings 1. The rate percentage of students pretest and posttest To know in what extent the result of students achievement in learning vocabulary taught by using technique of word wheel puzzle, firstly, the raw score of the students in pretest and posttest was tabulated, analyzed in percentage and then the score was calculated. Based on quality of the students score of the tests, their score was then classified into some level as follows: No 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Classification Excellent Very good Good Fairly good Fair poor Very poor Total Score 9.6 - 10 8.6 9.5 7.6 - 8.5 6.6 - 7.5 5.6 - 6.5 3.6 - 5.5 0 3.5 Pretest Frequency 0 5 10 9 5 4 0 30 Percentage 0% 16% 69% 30% 16% 12% 0% 100% Posttest Frequency 0 1 13 16 0 0 0 30 Percentage 0% 3% 43% 55% 0% 0% 0% 100%

Table 1 The rate percentage of students pretest and posttest Table 1 illustrates that the result of students pretest was from 30 students, no students got excellent, 5 students got very good (16%), 10 students got good (69%), 9 students got fairly good (30%), 5 students got fair (18%), 4 students got poor (12%) and none of them got very poor. Meanwhile the result of students posttest shows us that no student got excellent, 1 students got very good (3%), 13 students got good (43%), 16 students got fairly good (55%), and none of them got fair, poor and very poor. Referring to the above table, it can be said that the rate percentage of students posttest is higher than posttest.

2. The mean score and standard deviation The mean score of and standard deviation in pretest and posttest are presented as follow : Test Mean score Standard Deviation Pretest Posttest 4.78 8.56 2.81 2.87

Table 2 The mean score and standard deviation The table 2 points that the mean score of students pretest was 4.78 81 which categorized as with standard deviation was 2.8. While the mean score of posttest was 8.56 which categorized as good with standard deviation 2,87. It means that the mean score goes up 3.78 points.. 3. T-test result T-test analysis is used to know the significant difference between the pretest and posttest. The T-test result of the students is illustrated in the table 3. Variables Pretest Posttest T-test value 8.7 15. 4 T-table value 2.045 2.045

Table 3 T-test and T-table value of pretest and posttest Table 3 indicates that T-test value of students in pretest and posttest is higher than Ttable value in pretest and posttest. It is obvious that there is significant difference between the result of the students pretest and posttest. It signifies that teaching elementary students English vocabulary through technique of word wheel puzzle is to improve the vocabulary students. 4. Hypothesis testing To find out the degree of freedom (df), the research used the formula df = n-1 (30-1= 29), where n = number of students. So the degree of freedom (df) is 29, the level of significant (p) = 0.05 and T-testT value in pretest (8.7) and posttest (15.4) while T-table value in pretest and posttest (2.045). Thus, the alternative (H1) was accepted while the Null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected.

In line with the above analysis, the researcher concluded that there was a significant difference of value between pretest and posttest after having given the treatment using the teaching technique of wheel puzzle.
