Pakistan and Australia in Mourning

Last week was the worst day at warfront when Australia lost five diggers in the line of duty. They are now on their final journey to the homeland and will be laid to rest with honor. The same day Pakistan lost seven armed force personnels. Yesterday the Dawn daily has reported release of a video footage of heads of some of over a dozen soldiers who it said had been kidnapped a few days ago from Batwar border area of Bajaur.Officials of the local administration and security forces had confirmed that 15 soldiers had been missing after clashes in the area a few days ago. A spokesman for the outlawed Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan told reporters by phone from an undisclosed location that all 15 soldiers had been kidnapped a few days ago from the Batwar border area of Salarzai and they were executed by Taliban. The clashes in Bajaur began during an army operation launched against Taliban militants who had crossed over from Kunar province in Afghanistan last Friday and occupied the village of Batwar in Bajaur. Military sources have so far not said if the video was of Pakistani troops. As Pakistan prepares to celebrate Defence Day on 6th September they will be in our thoughts and prayers.

The nominations for Australian of the year have just closed. On behalf of this group I have nominated Moira Kelly in the community spirit category. Moira Kelly became a household name when the bangladeshi twins were being operated a couple of years back and since then I have been following the great work she has been doing only to learn now that Ahmed Kelly is another young boy adaopted by her who is now competing at paralympics. She has been an inspirational role model for not just Australians but all human beings and has proved that love is the weapon of mass peace. She has contributed to both Australian and International community and her dedication is unmatched. Our literary hero, Ashfaq Ahmed (late) once wrote about a conversation that he had with someone who has many kids. Ashfaq Ahmed commented to this person that his love is divided among so many kids while he had one son and his love is purely for one son. The man replied, " You do not divide love among kids you multiply it". This is exactly what Moira is doing spreading an infectious love around the world as an Australian and making us proud as well as inspire us to follow her footsteps. Moira has earlier been nominated for Australian of the Year Award in 2003 and 2004. The details of the work that she has been doing can be accessed at;
