You may try the cloths for certain juices.

If you are using a combination of fruits and vegetables that is low in fiber and higher in liquid (such as apples or a combination of apples and certain sticky leafy greens), it may be better to use the cloths rather than the bags. You can also try lining the cloth with a unbleached, brown disposable coffee filter (the ruffled basket style regular size or jumbo size). Flatten one coffee filter out and set it in the center of the cloth. Then scoop a cup of ground-up veggies in the center of it. Put another coffee filter over the top, fold the cloth and press. That is the most foolproof way of pressing those very sticky produce types.

Norwalk Juicer Helpful Suggestions

THE FOLLOWING HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS ARE IMPORTANT TO READ AND KEEP FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. WATCH THE DVD THAT COMES WITH THE JUICER ( located inside front cover of instruction manual) AND ALSO WATCH THE SPECIAL VIDEO CLIP ON OUR WEB SITEWWW.NWJCAL.COM / THE WEB SITE VIDEO CLIP WASORIGINALLYMADE FOR GERSON PATIENTS SO A FEW OF THE THINGS MENTIONED ARE SPECIFIC FOR THOSE ON THAT THERAPY AND THE FACTORY DVD IS MORE FOR GENERAL USE. THEY ARE BOTH GOOD FOR LEARNING HOW TO OPERATE THE JUICER. FOLLOWING ARE 2 VERSIONS OF THE HELPFUL HINTS,THERE IS A SECTION INBLUE PRINT THAT IS SPECIFIC FOR THE GERSON THERAPYAND THEN FOLLOWING IS A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT VERSION FOR REGULAR USAGE ( NON GERSON OR MODIFIED GERSON USE)

Congratulations! You are the owner of the best juicer in the world! With practice you will quickly become an expert in making your juicing effortless and enjoyable. Before operating your machine watch the video clip on our web sitewww.nwjcal.com, watch the dvd that comes with the juicer, read the rst 25 pages of the instruction manual and follow these suggestions: KEEP THE BOX AND PACKING MATERIALS BECAUSE IF YOU MOVE OR NEED SERVICE IT WILL BE NEEDED! All parts must be attached properly for machine to start. If your machine fails to start: check the electrical outlet, be sure feed tube is on properly and tightened down with both wing-nuts. Round tray should t on top of feed tube or feed tube is upside down. The grid holder must be inserted from the front side of feed tube, below the round knob. If it is inserted from back side the machine will not start . BE SURE TO PUSH THE ON SWITCH REALLY HARD. IF IT POPS BACK OUT YOU NEED TO PUSH HARDER. IT WILL LOOSEN WITH TIME. Preventing throwback:The cutter is powerful, and the rst carrot you put into the housing (feed tube) for grinding has to be handled carefully so as not to cause throwback. Be patient the rst few times. Turn machine on. Select a large carrot (or use 2-3 smaller carrots together). Slowly guide carrot into the feed pan opening. Hold on to the carrot with your left hand (don't let it go) and at the same time cup your right hand around the top of the carrot, completely covering the opening in the feed pan, so that accidental throw back will hit your hand rather than your ceiling! Push the carrot gently down into the cutter with your left hand while continuing to cover the opening for two to three seconds with your right hand until you feel no more volatile activity inside the housing. Now take your left hand away from the feed pan opening and pick up the pusher. Push it half way

down only to allow some of the vegetables to remain over the cutter. This will provide a buffer for the next vegetables you insert and there is less chance for throwback. Always keep the top of the feed tube covered with your hand or the pusher. Push the plunger all the way down only when done juicing. The Norwalk is a powerful machine and it is normal to make a mess the rst few times. If you have problems with throwback, here are 3 things you can try that will get you past the learning phase and past any difculty. In time you will become more efcient and the juicing will get easier and easier: 1. Place the blue plastic throwback lid on top of round tray.See page 6 of manual.Insert carrots through the slits and throwback should be eliminated. 2. When you push the plunger all the way down and remove it- it is more likely to throw back. If you have trouble with throwback take a thick rubber band and wrap it on the pusher about 1/2 inch from the top lip. This will keep the pusher from going all the way down. Remove the rubber band and push all the way down only when you are nished juicing. 3. Motor off: ll feed tube with cut carrot pieces or apples. Lightly place pusher over top. Start motor, push plunger down, stop motor and repeat. This is an extreme measure however, there is no way throwback back can happen this way. You can try these three things until you get used to the machine. Using the bags and cloths.See instruction manual pages 11-16 :Fill bag or cloth with approx. 1 lb.. (1 to 1 1/2 cups) ground vegetables or fruits only! This will provide 8 oz of juice when pressed. Never ll more into one lter bag or cloth. Do not shake ground vegetables into bottom of bag as seam could break. Ground veggies should be in center of bag, allowing the ends to be folded for expansion of pressure. Work with 3 bags when making large quantities of juice. Two lled bags should be stacked in press to provide 16 oz of juice at

one pressing. Place the third bag under the feed tube/housing to continue grinding while press is pressing. Pressing time 15- 20 sec. only, until juice stopspouring, and only dribbles. (See instruction manual). Never press one bag that is overlled, then fold it over and press again.( see page 11, #3) This will cause the press to go up unevenly and jam in the up position, possibly even damaging the press. If you ll the bags properly you will get all of the juice in one pressing. If you overll the bags with too much ground veggies you will be loosing juice and loosing nutrients. To avoid bursting bags: The seams could burst when the bags are overfilled, not folded correctly (make sure seam is inside the fold, check video), in need of replacing. Fill a bag (or cloth) with approx. 1 lb. (1 to 1 1/2 cups) ground vegetables or fruits only! This will provide 8 oz of juice when pressed. Never fill more into one filter bag or cloth. Also do not shake ground vegetables into bottom of bag as the bottom seam could break. Ground veggies should be in center of bag, allowing the ends to be folded for expansion of pressure. Clean juicer bags and cloths.See page 22 of the instruction manual:Never boil bags or cloths. Cloths and bags are made from dacron-polyester; boiling will melt bers together and prevent juice from owing evenly. After juicing rinse cloths (or bags) in cold water to rinse away ber particles and minerals.

Place in zip-lock plastic bag and store in freezer until needed next. Wash with biodegradable soap after 3-4 uses. Rinse out all soap. Store in freezer sealed in a plastic bag. Do not allow bags and cloths to air dry. This will make them brittle and shorten their life. Always keep in deep freezer ( not refrigerator ) when not in use to prevent bacteria growth. Thaw under faucet then rinse with ltered water when ready to use. If you experience juice squirting (or the seam of the bag bursting) while pressing, you can minimize this from happening: slightly back off the pressure on the press by bringing the handle forward a bit, allowing the press to go up more slowly and putting less force on overlled bags or bags in need of washing. This is advisable when juicing greens and apples as they have very low ber content and tend to plug up the pores of lter bags and cloths. If you have any difculty with the bags, then use the cloths, they are more fool- proof. Grids. See manual page 7: You have 8 grids (numbered 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) plus juicing grid. The grids allow you to grind a variety of vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, etc. The grid recommended for juicing is in the grid holder when you open the box. .However if you make large amounts of juice at one time, or use lots of green vegetables the juicing grid may be too ne to allow the the pulp to pass with ease and the motor may get hot or strain. It is recommended that you use the #1 grid for easier, safer operation especially with brous greens. With wheat grass always use #1 grid and mix in carrots . *Please note the pictures of the holes in the grids on page 7 are not quite accurate. Here is the way to tell what grid is correct. Write these numbers in the manual: Count the holes across the grid. These can vary one or two holes but should give a good idea of what grid sizes are: GRID #'s

#0 = 3 holes across (largest holes) #1 = 5 holes across ( this one best for large quantities or especially greens ) #J "juicing" grid8 holes across( this comes in the grid holder ) #2 = 10 holes across #3 = 13 holes across #4 = 16 holes across ( this one is hard to count across as the rows are staggered) #5 = 30 holes across #6 =38 across (smallest holes ) When you have nished juicing, before removing your last full bag from beneath the housing, pull the grid holder and grid from the housing, and sharply tap the pusher several times into the top of the housing. This will allow any trapped pulp inside the housing to fall into the bag instead of being wasted when you clean up. Always use a little olive oil on the groove of the motor shaft as it will make it easier to remove the cutter. It is normal for the motor to make a whistling or high pitched noise or run a little hot for the rst few weeks of operation and it should go away on its own. While the press is up the machine will lift up slightly and make a different sound. It is advisable to ll and press two bags or cloths at a time because pressing is more efcient. It is also advisable to make 1 or more quarts of juice at a time. Put juice immediately into small glass jars and refrigerate. Do not let juice sit out. If you are on the full Gerson therapy- requiring that you drink the green juice immediately and yet you have to go to work, try this: make and drink a glass of green juice, then make 6 or more glasses of carrot and the carrot and apple juice and refrigerate it, or put it on ice immediately -then make and drink one more green juice- then clean up. Make and drink the remaining 2 green juices as soon as you get home. ( Or one at lunch if you can come home). You can take the

carrot juice with you to work. There is no big advantage to making and drinking the carrot juice immediately as long as it is sealed in small 8-16 oz glass jars, refrigerated and drank throughout the day. If you are able to make the carrot juice hourly that is ne but this way its possible to do the therapy if you have to work. For anyonenot on the full therapyor if absolutely necessary in emergencies- the juices will last all day. For someone whomust go to workthis makes the therapy more practical. It is advisable to drink as much juice as possible. 8 oz at a time is a minimum. It is reasonable to assume with juices that more is better. If the juices seem warm then remember to use the larger #1 grid. We hope these suggestions will help. Be patient, it will get easier with time. Refer to the DVD, WEB SITE VIDEO and manual and call us if you have questions. REMEMBER: If you are on the FULL GERSON THERAPY you are required to drink the green juices immediately and the carrot juice can be made up in advance and taken to with you to work to be drank throughout the day. For those not on the Gerson Therapythere is no big advantage to making and drinking the juices immediately as long as it is sealed in small 8-16-32 oz glass jars and refrigerated or put on ice.For anyone not on the Gerson Therapy - the juices will actually last up to 3 days (Exceptions are wheat grass, potato and cabbage juices. Drink these immediately.)For someone who must go to work this makes juicing more practical. It is advisable to drink as much juice as possible. Dr. Walker said 32 oz a day ( 4 cups) of vegetable juice is the minimum if you want to improve your health. It is reasonable to assume with juices that more is better. ( Gerson Patients drink up to 1 gallon a day so dont be afraid to drink as much as you want.)If the juices seem warm then remember to use the larger #1 grid. We hope these suggestions will help. Be patient, it will get easier with time. Refer to

Cleaning the mineral deposits from the stainless juicer parts: There is a product available at most stores called DISHWASHER MAGIC or searchgoogle.comto order online. You can use this product in your dishwasher once in awhile to remove buildup. Just be sure to rewash the juicer parts to be sure all of this cleaner is removed before using the juicer parts again. It not only cleans your dishwasher but usually works wonders on the stainless juicer parts. PLEASE NOTE: IT IS OK THAT THE MOTOR MAKES A BIT OF A SQUEAL NOISE AT FIRST. IT IS THE BEARINGS SETTING IN PLACE AND IT SHOULD GO AWAY WITH TIME. **IT IS NORMAL FOR THE TOP OF THE PRESS TO LIFT UP WHILE PRESSING. THIS IS A GOOD SIGN THAT YOUR PRESS IS WORKING WELL. IT IS

ALSO NORMAL FOR THERE TO BE A DIFFERENT SOUND WHILE IT IS PRESSING. REMEMBER THERE IS A TERRIFIC FORCE AT WORK PRESSING OUT ALL OF YOUR JUICE, VITAMINS AND MINERALS. THE MACHINE AND THE SHEET METAL THAT COVERS THE MACHINE IS MEANT TO BE FLEXIBLE. THE SHEET METAL DOES NOT EXTEND ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP OR BOTTOM OF THE MACHINE FOR THAT REASON, SO WHEN THE MACHINE IS PRESSING , THE WHOLE MACHINE CAN FLEX. THE CUTTER MAY BE A BIT TIGHT AT FIRST BECAUSE IT LOOSENS UP WITH TIME. BE SURE TO WRAP A DISH TOWEL OVER IT TO REMOVE IT MORE EASILY AND SAFELY AND YOU CAN APPLY A LITTLE OLIVE OIL ON THE GROOVE OF THE MOTOR SHAFT EVERY NOW AND THEN TO MAKE IT EASIER TO REMOVE WHEN CLEANING.
