Course Outline 2013-2014 Department: Visual Arts (FILM) Year Level: Year 7 Teacher : Beverly Riddell and Alison Wong Course Aims
To develop students knowledge of how production processes and technology can be used to investigate themes. To develop students understanding of clear communication in the creative process. To develop students skill in scripting and other production processes. To develop students ability to accurately record their achievements and challenges and how this influences their own practice and understanding.

Skills
Workshop the scripting process Workshop creation of storyboards Workshop the pitching process which encourages clarity of communication Develop awareness through critical viewing of a variety of film texts; Workshop and practice practical skills which develop confidence and encourage creativity Prepare and present works within prescribed perimeters.

Assessment criteria
Formative and Summative assessment tasks that address the following criteria: A Knowledge and Understanding. B Application of Skills. C Reflection and Evaluation. D Artistic Awareness and Personal Engagement.

COURSE AIMS The aim of the Film Program is to enable students to : have a full understanding of the language of cinema and an appreciation of the art of cinema world wide Develop a keen awareness and understanding of the art of cinematography become proficient in producing and manipulating all types of media be self assured when encountering all types of technical platforms become reective and engaged viewers of the moving image have the capacity to express their ideas through the visual media of the moving image develop self-condence and self-awareness through the collaborative project based experience of producing video develop a positive long term relationship with the art of cinema actively seek to apply the knowledge, understanding and skills they have acquired in Film Making in the wider community SKILLS The specic skills studied and taught build upon previous experience and relate to selected Units of work and include: An active understanding of the grammar of the shot Camera Operation Camera support manipulation Framing A broad understanding of Cinematography and how it gives meaning to the viewing experience Final Cut Pro The craft of editing An ability to critically respond to a lm Reective response to feedback Self evaluation ASSESSMENT CRITERIA There are four assessment criteria applied to all units of work. Specic tasks are designed for each of the rst three criteria within units or as discreet assessment tasks for the selected criteria. ASSESSMENT RESOURCES

YEAR 12 & 13 AIMS An appreciation and understanding of film as a complex art form; An ability to formulate stories and ideas in film terms; The practical and technical skills of production; Critical evaluation of film productions by the student and by others; A knowledge of filmmaking traditions in more than one country.

PRESENTATION 25% Close textual analysis of a continuous extract; Relating an extracts features to the film as a whole and to the wider sociocultural context. Presenting a clear understanding of how meaning is constructed through the use of film language. Demonstrating a clear understanding of a films audience and critics during different periods.
