Lesson Plan - Technology III Primary (2 x 45 minutes)

The lessons took place on 6th and 13th April 2012. They were connected with the 3R ideas of Doing Our Bit project reduce and reuse different materials to make smaller the amount of rubbish that we throw away every day. Pupils were encouraged to create something from nothing. Topic: We create ECO-man using waste materials Main objectives: - construction skills development - the ecological awarness developing by using waste materials in crafts Detial educational objectives Pupils: - know the rules of work place organization - know where to find information needed in making crafts (drawings, symbols) - know the types of construction materials - know the influence of out-of-control gathering rubbish on the environment pollution - know materials that can be recycled - know the recycling definition and benefits of its using Pupils can: - properly organize place of work - find information needed to make the craft - choose and use construction materials that fulfil all conditions - devise technological process - use different tools Materials: waste materials old toys, cartons, beads, plastic boxes, etc, scissors, abrasive paper, glue, metal saw, etc Methods: explanation, demonstration, briefing of activities, practical activities, discussion The lesson stages: Teachers activities 1. Preparing to the lesson. Welcoming, giving and explaining the aim and the activities of the lesson 2. Dividing pupils into groups consisted of 3-4 pupils.

Making them answering following questions: - Why is it worth to use waste materials while making crafts? - Why should we segregate rubbish? - What danger does come from rubbish? - How can we make smaller the amount of rubbish? - What the recycling is? Asking pupils to take out brought waste materials. Paying pupils attention to the sign on the containers: environmentaly friendly and that they can be recycled. Introducing pupils with different types of materials and their properties Analysing the problem, answering the question.

Reminding the rules of working in the Technology classroom. Asking pupils to take out needed tools. Encouraging pupils to make the ecoman. Controling pupils activities, helping with choosing the proper tools, etc. Asking groups leaders to describe Estimating their involvement in the their work and estimate their lesson, describing the created eco-man

Taking out waste materials. Drawing the recycling sign pointed by the teacher to notebooks. Segregation of brought materials because of their for example colour, size, etc., to make the choise easier. Observation of the materials and their reaction for loading. Materials made of polypropylene, polystyrene or polythene can be cut with the saw, the holes inside of them can be made with hot wire, drill, etc. Elements from polythene are difficult to glue but elements from polystyrene you can stick very easily. Thinking in groups how the eco-man should look like. Choosing the best idea, and making the group leader to draw the image of eco-man and describe its elements. The rest of the group controls what the leader is making. Takig out needed tools. Organising work places, and planning the work stages. Making eco-man according to the prepared drawing and brought materials.
