Director of Development Job Description

I. Position: Location: Position Classification: Immediate Supervisor: Director of Development Charleston, WV Full Year / Full-time / Salaried Reports to the Executive Director

I. Purpose

of Position:

To develop funding sources to support the administrative and program operations of Habitat for Humanity of West Virginia and its member affiliates. Responsible for implementing the goals as set forth by the Board of Directors. Development of new programs, individual, corporate, & foundation giving. Development of an overall fundraising strategy in accordance with direction, policies, procedures, and objectives set by the Board of Directors.

II. Qualifications:

Education: Experience:

Minimum Bachelors Degree in Development, Management, or related field Five (5) years experience (educational or job related) preferred with previous Habitat volunteer or work experience preferred

III. Areas

Writing: Specific Duties i. Identifies viable grant funding sources and maintains their contact information and funding opportunities ii. Completes grant applications as per grantors requests iii. Administers funded grants, ensures compliance, and facilitates all necessary reporting and follow-up In-Kind: Specific Duties i. Identifies sources (manufacturers and retailers) of useable building materials,

Solicits donations of other affiliate related needs, including but not limited to professional services such as legal, accounting, auditing, appraisals, and architectural
c. Church and Faith Relations: Specific Duties i. Fosters relationships between the faith community and WV Habitat ii. Contacts each major church organization within the state annually d. Affiliate Capacity Building: Specific Duties i. Maintains a readiness file on each WV ii. In

g. Funding, Donor, and Sponsor Cultivation: Specific Duties i. Fosters corporate giving and sponsorships ii. Facilitates the use of funding from the State and Federal Government iii. Facilitates the use of funding from related housing financing agencies

including, but not limited to: The West Virginia Housing Development Fund, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the West Virginia Development Office iv. Encourages mutual beneficial funding programs with the WV Banking Community v. Maintains registration with State and Federal Combined Giving Campaigns vi. Captures the contact information of our donors and volunteers to add to database vii. Provides appropriate donor recognition and acknowledgements.
h. Administrative: Specific Duties i. In cooperation with the Executive Committee, generates an annual report. ii. Attends and presents reports at the Board and Committee meetings of HFHWV

as needed.
i. Continuing Education and Training: Specific Duties i. Attends training and other educational opportunities

to enhance job performance as related to the needs of HFHWV, including but not limited to: Organizational Development Grant Writing, Public and Motivational Speaking, and Habitat

j. Relationships: Specific Duties i. Explores ways to work collaboratively with other non-profit organizations ii. Collaborates and assists in building upon existing relationships with National

HFHI Programs and Partnerships, including but not limited to Prison Partnerships, Womans Build, Building on Faith, etc. iii. Must establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the following: Internal: HFHI, HFHWV Executive Director and Board of Directors External: Donors, Volunteers, Foundations, Churches, Businesses, Corporations, and the community at large.
