Job Title: Systems Engineer Reports to: IT Director Position Summary:

Ware/Hour Status: Exempt Dept./School: Corporate - IT

This hands-on position has technical responsibility and accountability for supporting the District's enterprise server and storage operations. Responsibilities include planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all server hardware, software, applications, storage, and virtualization environments while ensuring minimal downtime. This individual should be a self-motivated starter; perform tasks with little or no supervision; maintain a proactive attitude when establishing relationships among district personnel; and maintain emotional control under stress. Qualifications: Education/Certification Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred. MCP and/or MCSE Certified. MCITP certification a plus. Experience 5+ years of experience in an engineer role supporting a large server environment. Required KSAs Must have 5+ years of experience with server hardware and support. Must have 5+ years of experience with Windows server administration and support, preferably Server 2008. Must have 5+ years of experience with Active Directory administration and support. Advanced knowledge and 5+ years of experience troubleshooting AD and Windows environments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with a broad base of end users and multiple management layers. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to travel as necessary. Preferred KSAs 3-5 years of experience maintaining and supporting enterprise storage environments (SAN), including system and data recovery. 2-3 years of experience maintaining and supporting virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V. 3-5 years of experience maintaining and supporting backup and recovery systems.

Responsibilities and Duties: Troubleshoots and resolves complex systems hardware, software, and connectivity problems. Provides level 2 and 3 production support on a 24x7 basis for all server operations equipment.

Supports integrated 1TIL processes with Incident, Change and Problem management. Develops plans to resolve problems and prevent them from recurring; maintains high service levels for the user community in accordance with SLAs. Ensures all system changes are well communicated, coordinated, and documented. Responsible for the security of the enterprise network. Ensures proper tools, procedures, and measures are in place and maintained to prevent unauthorized access and virus attacks on the network. Plan, configure, implement, and support the enterprise server infrastructure in accordance with strategic plans. Work with other administrators and technical teams to develop and configure storage requirements for SANs. Perform analysis and design for high availability, redundancy, and failover. Administer virtual servers and applications including server provisioning, resource allocation, optimization, configuration, maintenance, and support. Manage enterprise Active Directory services and supporting infrastructure including design, identity management, permissions, file and print, support, configuration, and maintenance. Establish policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure standardization, performance, and secure access. Design and implement procedures to ensure that backup of all systems are performed on a regular basis. Restore data as needed. Assist with development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan. o Plan and implement new server systems, applications, and hardware, including upgrades, maintenance o fixes, and patches. Responsible for the proper monitoring, tuning, optimization, and performance of all server systems and provides performance statistics and reports. Maintains up-to-date documentation, including diagrams, on all server and storage systems, services, and connectivity. Practices asset management and keeps updated component inventories and related documentation and technical specifications. Be customer service oriented and maintain a professional approach regarding all district matters. Be adaptable and flexible in acceptance of changes in techniques and procedures. Perform R&D and remain knowledgeable of emerging trends in technology and keep abreast of innovative practices. Attain and keep current, relevant technology certifications. Perform special projects, after-hours support and upgrades, and other duties as assigned. Travel to campus locations for onsite support as required.

EQUIPMENT USED: Personal computers, laptops, routers, switches, telecommunications and other network devices and appliances. PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: The physical factors described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 50 lbs. unassisted. Other physical demands include hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity, visual acuity, speech and hearing, repetitive motion, climbing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, balancing, and driving to perform essential functions. On call 24/7 technical support will be required, as well as a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
