Rising is an evening of new work, performed by extraordinary dancer Aakash Odedra and featuring solos choreographed by dance heavyweights Russell Maliphant, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Akram Khan (of London 2012 Opening Ceremony fame). indian dance styles Kathak and Bharatanatyam are blended to create a new and exhilarating flavour of contemporary dance. Aakash Odedra will be leading a masterclass on 18 October - see page 33 for details.

an evening of two powerful up-close performances.

Between is quiet and powerful, minimal and intense and delves into intimate, yet emotionally charged interactions. You can choose whether to stand and spectate or to interact with the performers. Duet for a Bed of Leaves is about love, power and searching. Enter a world where the floor is made of leaves, where the dancers are close and the atmosphere is electric.

Angela Praed and Angela Woodhouse will be leading masterclasses on 10 & 12 October respectively - see page 33 for details.

Seamlessly weaving storytelling and movement, hetain creates a humorous, engaging and refreshingly unpretentious interrogation of cultural identity. By asking what makes him Indian, he explores how identity is created. Assisted by two percussionist performers, they immerse us in rhythmic indian vocals, heartfelt anecdotes and moments of simple, visual beauty. Produced by Dance4. Commissioned by Dance4 and New Art Exchange. Supported by Lakeside Arts Centre and Arts Council England, East Midlands. A story of secret wishes, suppressed desires and a garden shed, inspired by The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Agnes and Walter dance, sing and breathe life into their private worlds of daydream and fantasy to ensure their relationship survives. Set to cinematic scores and popular songs, a cast spanning three generations performs poignant and comic storytelling, dance, physical theatre and clowning.

50 Acts is a warm, intimate and affecting dance-theatre show, written and performed by the inspirational Wendy Houstoun. Well-known for challenging, as well as engaging her audiences, 50 Acts sees Wendy retaliating against ageism and other modern rubbish such as big ideas, random acts, apologies and errors. Combining movement with text, and meaning with humour, Wendy communicates loudly and clearly about our culture and the mad world we live in. Wendy Houstoun will be leading a masterclass on 16 November see page 33 for details.

A re-imagining of Samuel Becketts world in Waiting For Godot, four peculiar personalities wait for their salvation while brimming with frenetic impulses. Riveting, unpredictable and acutely humorous, it will have you on the edge of your seat one moment and laughing out loud the next. The evening includes the duet A Readiness by Lla Dance and two short performances from The Bishop of Winchester Academy, Bethany Junior and St Peters Schools who have worked with Lla Dance with the support of the Cultural Hub for Bournemouth and Poole.

Modern dance goddess Antonia Grove embodies real life American B-movie actresses, whose interviews are fed to her through earphones. Antonia undertakes a series of edgy, sexy and unpredictable transformations which border on disguise and derangement. Small Talk is a brave and compelling solo made in collaboration with Wendy Houstoun. Its both funny and darkly disturbing.

An evening of new dance where we invite up to five artists to present up to 15 minutes of work which is in development. We invite you to stick around afterwards to tell the artists what you thought and support the work on the next stage of its journey. Part of Hatch & Scratchs intention is to encourage a conversation between artists and audiences, to support the development of the work, so we look forward to hearing your views, ideas and suggestions during the evening. Hatch & Scratch will be a chance for the artists we are supporting to share work being developed at Pavilion Dance South West. This season will include Bristol-based performer, Karla Shacklock, who will be in residence to start making her latest work between 4 and 7 September and is offering a free morning warm-up session each day for artists of all disciplines and skill levels. Did you know...its OK to be different? No two people (or monsters) are the exactly the same. A playful, humorous and inventive response to the idea of things and people being different. There are scratchy creatures and mini monsters playing and interacting with one another with their arms and legs moving in strange and impossible ways.

This big-hearted production, combining storytelling, puppetry and dance, will charm audiences from 4 to 104. Its based on the much-loved tale by Oscar Wilde. One day, a Giant returns home to find children playing in his beautiful garden. He puts up a high wall and a notice saying TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECuTED. his garden remains locked in a wintery chill. But one morning the Giant finds something is different Watch the trailer on our website.

Listen via wireless headphones to tracks spun by DJs from the UKs top festivals. Dance the night away on our terraces and enjoy views of the Lower Gardens while listening to your favourite tracks, new and old, from a massive range of genres. We provide everyone with a set of wireless headphones and then have two DJs playing simultaneously on separate channels. If you dont like what the first DJ is playing, just flick the switch and listen to the second DJ!

Reclaim the Street is a response to the widespread commercialisation of street dance. Authentic street dance is becoming an endangered species worldwide and its time to return to its roots. Discover the rich history and culture of hip-hop and House and learn the basic foundations of both in their true form. You will have six hours of practical sessions for each style including foundation and technique classes, choreography creation and feedback sessions. Plus seminars, jams, demonstrations and documentary films. if youre a dancer or teacher into street dance, this is unmissable!

i learnt so much about street dances foundation, history and technique. Kashmir and corina are probably the best teachers around angela reece, all elements

natasha Z Player is our african and Mini african Dance teacher and was the first person to perform on our terraces for our launch event back in September 2010. Shes since taught hundreds of people young and old, and our customers always tell us how much they love her warm personality and uplifting classes (see page 32). We had a quick chat to get to know her better. I discovered African Dance when I was visiting family in Tanzania. I had previously studied ballet, but I found African Dance fitted my movement and rhythm perfectly. i started training regularly in London and Bristol, before studying intensively in Canada and taking study trips to Ivory Coast, Senegal and Gambia. From initiation, coming of age and warrior dances, African Dance doesnt stand still, its evolving all the time. i love teaching at Pavilion Dance South West as theres a real mixture of people. One day Im helping young children create new movement and the next, meeting language students from a completely different culture. im lucky to have the opportunity to perform, most recently in Obey The Wind at Bristols Circomedia and multi-cultural festivals.

A fun and therapeutic class, where you can move, meet others and share experiences. Both teachers have extensive experience of working with people with Parkinsons disease, both therapeutically and in the creative environment. They will help, support and guide you, using movement that is specifically designed for the symptoms of the condition. Live music means you can be entertained while you develop your movement and vocal projection. The class will be followed by an optional social gathering.

We endeavour to create fertile and significant experiences for our audiences by engaging them in ways that can sometimes be intimate and thoughtprovoking and sometimes expansive and exhilarating. Our engagement with artists development embraces three stages and we view our engagement with them as a generous and collaborative relationship.

begins to refine our relationship as we bring creative influences in to help feed the work and let it grow. Well provide up to five days of studio space, access to our theatre and a technician for one day, accommodation and travel, as well as a small bursary to support the making process.

3. getting hitcheD
demonstrates our belief in the artists as we become advocates of the work. Well provide a cash investment to help enable the work to be made and tour. Well be credited as co-commissioners and receive a performance of the new work. We will provide technical production space and time and may support with dramaturgy, marketing or other significant inputs. These steps could act as a ladder but the right artist can also begin a relationship with us at any point depending on their experience and needs and our priorities.

pavilion Dance south West has been instrumental in supporting me...and this means a great deal in terms of encouragement and the feeling that my work was valued and esteemed Jane mason, south West regional Dance artist

1. first Date
is an opportunity for us to get to know artists better. Well provide up to five days studio space, accommodation and travel expenses. The company will commit to two informal chats with us during the week where we learn about each other, understand the aspirations for the work and offer ideas for the future. The company will also get to test their ideas in front of an audience at our regular hatch & Scratch nights. See page 16.

Pavilion Dance South West strives to create a structure to support dance through new approaches to producing, presenting and educating. Were interested in physical adventures and new movement and are committed to developing dialogue and understanding between artists and audiences.
