A story of secret wishes, suppressed desires and a garden shed, inspired by The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Agnes and Walter dance, sing and breathe life into their private worlds of daydream and fantasy to ensure their relationship survives. 50 Acts is a warm, intimate and affecting dance-theatre show, written and performed by the inspirational Wendy Houstoun. Well-known for challenging, as well as engaging her audiences, 50 Acts sees Wendy retaliating against ageism and other modern rubbish such as big ideas, random acts, apologies and errors. Combining movement with text, and meaning with humour, Wendy communicates loudly and clearly about our culture and the mad world we live in. Wendy Houstoun will be leading a masterclass on 16 November see page 33 for details.

An evening of new dance where we invite up to five artists to present up to 15 minutes of work which is in development. We invite you to stick around afterwards to tell the artists what you thought and support the work on the next stage of its journey. Part of Hatch & Scratchs intention is to encourage a conversation between artists and audiences, to support the development of the work, so we look forward to hearing your views, ideas and suggestions during the evening. Hatch & Scratch will be a chance for the artists we are supporting to share work being developed at Pavilion Dance South West. This season will include Bristol-based performer, Karla Shacklock, who will be in residence to start making her latest work between 4 and 7 September and is offering a free morning warm-up session each day for artists of all disciplines and skill levels. natasha Z Player is our african and Mini african Dance teacher and was the first person to perform on our terraces for our launch event back in September 2010. Shes since taught hundreds of people young and old, and our customers always tell us how much they love her warm personality and uplifting classes (see page 32). We had a quick chat to get to know her better. I discovered African Dance when I was visiting family in Tanzania. I had previously studied ballet, but I found African Dance fitted my movement and rhythm perfectly. i started training regularly in London and Bristol, before studying intensively in Canada and taking study trips to Ivory Coast, Senegal and Gambia. From initiation, coming of age and warrior dances, African Dance doesnt stand still, its evolving all the time. i love teaching at Pavilion Dance South West as theres a real mixture of people. One day Im helping young children create new movement and the next, meeting language students from a completely different culture. im lucky to have the opportunity to perform, most recently in Obey The Wind at Bristols Circomedia and multi-cultural festivals.
A fun and therapeutic class, where you can move, meet others and share experiences. Both teachers have extensive experience of working with people with Parkinsons disease, both therapeutically and in the creative environment. They will help, support and guide you, using movement that is specifically designed for the symptoms of the condition. Live music means you can be entertained while you develop your movement and vocal projection. The class will be followed by an optional social gathering.

We endeavour to create fertile and significant experiences for our audiences by engaging them in ways that can sometimes be intimate and thoughtprovoking and sometimes expansive and exhilarating. Our engagement with artists development embraces three stages and we view our engagement with them as a generous and collaborative relationship.
begins to refine our relationship as we bring creative influences in to help feed the work and let it grow. Well provide up to five days of studio space, access to our theatre and a technician for one day, accommodation and travel, as well as a small bursary to support the making process.
3. getting hitcheD
demonstrates our belief in the artists as we become advocates of the work. Well provide a cash investment to help enable the work to be made and tour. Well be credited as co-commissioners and receive a performance of the new work. We will provide technical production space and time and may support with dramaturgy, marketing or other significant inputs. These steps could act as a ladder but the right artist can also begin a relationship with us at any point depending on their experience and needs and our priorities.
