Lesson 1

Can children ask relevant geographical questions? Can children use the map to locate areas?

To use maps to locate India and other areas on a map.

Use the atlases to locate India. Where is India in relation to Mexico? Compare the size of the countries. Complete the map worksheets showing Mexico and India (Chembakolli located by an arrow). The children are to list 5 things they would like to find out over the topic in their books. H/wk To find a flag of India and copy it into their books. Ask the children how they would get to India. Children to use atlases and the web to plan a route to India. Children use the 2 websites listed to plan a trip with stops at a minimum of five countries before they reach India. Children use the atlas to identify a country, the world airport guide to find the airport in the country, then the indo site to calculate the mileage between each city. children to calculate the mileage needed for the whole trip and to write up their route in

Lesson 3 To make comparisons between living conditions in two localities. To use secondary sources of evidence. Children to look at the Chembakolli village PowerPoint and look for similarities and differences between houses in the village and houses in Mexico. LA to draw the houses and label them with similarities and differences. Can the children list the similarities and differences? Are they able to use secondary sources of evidence? Data sheets ( need to compile data from internet) Graph paper Are the children able to make comparisons between the two climates? Are they able to suggest ways in which these climates would affect industry/farming?

Lesson 4

To compare two localities. To study climate and temperature of different countries and discuss how this may affect the people who live there.

Look at the data about the temperature and rainfall of both Gudalur/Mysore (nearest town and city to Chembakolli) and Mexico City. Plot line graph to show difference in rainfall. Plot bar chart to show difference in temperature. Make comparisons between the two graphs. LA - Graphs already plotted.

Discuss how this may affect industry, trade and farming in both areas.
