Technique in Design for Manufacture and Assembly


Involves simultaneous consideration of design goals and manufacturing constraints in order to identify and alleviate manufacturing problems while the product is being designed. Includes an understanding of the technical capabilities and limitations of the manufacturing processes chosen by invoking a series of guidelines, principle, and recommendations, commonly termed producibility guidelines, to modify component designs for subsequent manufacture. The use of techniques to assist costing of component designs also aids the process of cost optimisation.
