How Government has Influenced Behaviour For Social Change?

What are the main reasons behind the emergence of social issues? Middle class peoples lives in India are made more difficult by corruption, price rises and heavy daily traffic jams. Middle class people are so oppressed under their own responsibilities that they need extra support to fight for themselves. They need help from government and nongovernment institutions. Anyone who is seen to help common people is popular and quickly gathers a following. The expectations of the middle class shape the issues that the government focuses on. Government contribution in eradicating any social issue from society plays a major role. In the past, scheduled castes and tribes were treated badly by upper caste people. Dalit (Schedule Caste and tribe people) ritually regarded as impure, worked as manual labourers, cleaning streets, latrines, and sewers leatherwork. To raise the status of lower castes and tribes, the government has framed some policies and implemented various welfare programmes to improve their socio-economic status such as in education SC & ST students were given pre matric and post matric scholarship, loan scholarship and free education. Since independence the Scheduled Caste & Scheduled tribes have been given special reservation in Government jobs under Reservation policy as per the constitution of India. The government effort to diminish the untouchability has made a remarkable change in dalit group. According to 2001 metrics, the quality of life of Dalit population in India has access to health care, life expectancy, education attainability, housing, etc. as similar to overall population of modern India

At the time of independence in 1947 only 14% of population was literate. To achieve their objective education for all in India, Government had introduced programmes and schemes like provision of schools in one kilometre walking distance, non-formal education, policy of no detention up to grade V and mid-day meal facilities to increase the enrolment in villages. Due to effective measures of Government, Indias effective literacy rate has reach 74.04 per cent, according to provisional data of the 2011 census. Government takes support of Celebrities to make it easier to change the mind-set of the people. For polio eradication, on national media, Amitabh Bachchans support attracted people to the issue and convinced people, especially ladies, that the oral vaccine would not affect their child health. According to WHO report in 2011, Polio is no longer an endemic disease in India. Government takes support of Media to create awareness regarding particular issue. Environmental conservation has come up as one of the major concerns in the world today. It is the effort from NDTV (Greenathon) to spread awareness about the environment. NDTV has launched programs like Greenathon, Save Our Tiger campaign, Support My School campaign, Mark for sports under Fit India Movement and Save Indias Coast to build awareness of issues. They managed to get 13 crores as donation in 2010 and 2011 for this noble cause. Corporate sector directly or indirectly is also supporting government in reducing the issues in India. Almost all Indian corporates are indulging in Corporate Social Responsibility programs. The major areas covered by CSR are education, health, skill development and empowerment of weaker sections. RIL's (Reliance Industries Limited) Dahej Manufacturing Division has given financial assistance under the government project "Kanya Kelvani" on education of girl child in Gujarat. Azim Premji Foundation efforts with a vision to provide quality education in government schools has shown 10% overall improvement in male children in almost 6500 schools. Government schools of Rajasthan and Haryana have adapted children development workbooks in almost 78,000 schools introduced by Azim Premji Foundation.
