You must do as well as you can on this baseline test. IF you suffer a concussion, this test can help us return you to sports in less time. If the test does not reflect your best work, we must treat your return to sports more conservatively, which will require more rest time following a concussion.

A-1 Getting Started Section 4: FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions from Getting Started with ImPACT

Training Workshops/Webinars

Questions from Workshop Attendees

Q: Who do I call for more information?

Answers

A: Please Call (877) 646-7991, type in the proper extension

Q: Who can administer ImPACT?

A: An Athletic Trainer, Physician, Nurse, Neuropsychologist, Sports Medicine Clinician, Psychologist, Coach, Athletic Director can administer the baseline and post injury test. The administrator needs to have taken the test and be familiar with the testing protocol, we also suggest you take our free Getting Started with ImPACT webinar. Although many people can administer the tests, a medical professional who is legally allowed to make the return to play decision must be the one who interprets the post injury test results.

Q: How do I administer the test to multiple students at once?

A: ImPACT is a web based program, which allows you to log onto the test from multiple computers. We provide each client with a group baseline testing link. When you are administering the test you will need to instruct each student to go to your group testing link. It will then ask them to select the state your school is located in and to provide your Customer ID code. This will allow them to take a baseline test; this will not give them access to your customer testing center. The customer testing center that holds all of your records is protected by a different username and password. After they complete the baseline it will automatically be sent to your customer testing center. A: Online ImPACT does not require a Social Security Number or other identification number. Name and date of birth are the only identifiers required.

Q: Do we need to use a social security number as the identification number when we take the test or can we use a different number? Q: How does ImPACT compare to SCAT2?

A: The SCAT is an on-field measure and should never be used beyond the acute stages of the injury due to its lack of sensitivity/specificity. ImPACT is a post-injury office tool that allows one to document recovery and eventual RTP.

ImPACT's products provide information regarding potential cognitive decline and related symptoms that may be experienced after head trauma. ImPACT's products are not diagnostic, do not determine whether an individual has a particular head or brain injury and should not be used to make a return to play decision without an examination by a qualified and licensed health care professional. Many jurisdictions have rules and regulations governing the process and procedures under which an individual may be returned to play. Please check the rules and regulations in your state, county, organization and/or school district for legal requirements and further guidance.

www.impacttest.com

Q: Is ImPACT available in languages other than English? Q: What are the computer requirements for ImPACT? Q: Why is the test running slow or freezing?

A: The test is available in 17 languages currently: English, Portuguese, Swedish, Norwegian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Czech, Russian, Mandarin, Finnish, Afrikaans, Hungarian Korean, Japanese and Cantonese

A: Please click on the link to view the ImPACTs technical facts. https://www.impacttestonline.com/customercenter/pdfs/ImPACT_Applications_Tech_Facts.pdf

A: Slow running test, freezing screens, computer hanging are all signs of something else running at same time as the test. Examples of other things running: virus scan, time out monitors, network monitors, any background program, etc. If you are required to run these programs, we have developed a workaround that can be installed to minimize this problem. Contact support@impacttestonline.com for a copy. A: It means the internet connection was lost during the testing procedure. Unfortunately the test has been lost and you will need to retest the athlete. To help limit this possibility, don't log in to Online ImPACT until the athlete is ready to start testing.

Q: What does it mean if the Saving Data screen does not go away? Q: Who should I Baseline? Q: How often should athletes be given a baseline test? Q: Why does ImPACT discourage home based testing? Q: Is there any way to get a copy of a patients baseline test from another school/clinic to compare to the athletes post-injury test?

A: We suggest baselines for all athletes. Some schools only test contact sports based on the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines.

A: We suggest that athletes are tested every two years from 6th grade to senior year of high school. In college, athletes should only be tested once. At the professional level, each athlete should be tested once. ImPACT has normative data from age 10 to 59.

A: ImPACT is strongly opposed to home based testing and testing that is not appropriately supervised by a professional. Concussion is a brain injury and parents and other professionals who are not trained in concussion management should not be in a position of making decisions about return to sports, based on a neurocognitive test such as ImPACT. A: The ImPACT program allows you to print and/or save baseline tests to your desktop. If you need a students baseline you can have the school print it and give it to the student to bring to you, they can also email it to you. http://impacttest.com/pdf/improtocol.pdf

Q: What are ImPACTs Best Practices recommendations for schools and teams? What type of multidisciplinary team should we have in place to use ImPACT? Q: How do I get the baseline and post-injury test to show up on the same report?

A: To view ImPACTs Best Practices please click on this link: http://impacttest.com/pdf/improtocol.pdf

A: After looking up the athlete under Test Look Up, click on the baseline test so it is highlighted blue. Then click on the post-injury test while holding down the control key. Both tests should now be highlighted blue. They will now both be on the report when you click Generate Report.

Q: Where do I find my customer ID code?

A: Sign into the customer center. On the home page go to the top right corner in red letteringCustomer ID Code. Click and follow the prompts.

Q: How often do you administer the ImPACT test during an athletes injury? Q: Do you administer the test when an athlete still has self-reported symptoms?

A: I (Dr. Collins/Lovell) evaluate the athlete within 72 hours of injury and then at weekly intervals, until they are asymptomatic at rest, asymptomatic with exertion, and all normal on ImPACT (return to play criteria). For those who take a long time to recover, this time interval can be extended. If the case is milder, I might evaluate them a few times within the first week. You should never test more than twice in a week. A: Yes, I (Dr. Collins/Lovell)do test athletes when they are symptomatic, to help monitor progress and help to determine school issues, return to exertion, etc.
