FIREPROTECTIONTANKSHOPDRAWINGS 2003NFPA22and2002NFPA13 Listeditemsrequirefireprotectiontanksystemshopdrawingrevisionsormanufacturerproduct cutsheetsverifyinglistingbyanationallyrecognizedtestinglaboratory. Answersinletterform are not acceptable. Starting construction before plans approval may be considered as justcausebytheStatetoissueastopworkorder.[Rule078027.09]

1. Provide2copiesofthefireprotectiontanksystemshopdrawingswithspecificationsand1 copyofmanufacturerproductcutsheetsverifyinglisting.[NFPA224.5and2002NFPA24 4.1.1] 2. The location of tanks must be such that the tank and structure are not subject to fire exposure.Iflackofyardroommakesthisimpracticable,exposedsteelmustbefireproofed or protected by open sprinklers. This protection must be provided for steel within 20 feet. [NFPA224.2] 3. Pipingconnectionsandfittings.[NFPA22Chapter13] A. Checkvalves.[NFPA2213.2.11and13.4.1] B. Controllingvalves.[NFPA2213.2.12] C. Fillingpumps.[NFPA2213.4.2] D. SteelPipemustcomplywithNFPA2213.1.15. 4. Water tank must have a water levelgaugeandbe supervised indicating abnormalhigh or lowwaterlevel.[NFPA2213.1.11and2002NFPA725.13.3] 5. Watertemperaturemustbesupervisedforprotectionagainstfreezing.[NFPA22Chapter15 and2002NFPA7213.4] 6. Pressuretankmustbeprovidedwithanapprovedmeansforautomaticallymaintainingthe requiredairpressure.[NFPA227.1.4and7.2.10] 7. Pressuretanksmustbekeptwithasupplyofwatertomeetthedemandofthefireprotection systemascalculatedbyNFPA13Chapter14andforthedurationofNFPA13Chapter11. [NFPA227.1.4] 8. Provideanapprovedtroublealarmtoindicatelowairpressureandlowwaterlevelwiththe alarm supplied from an electrical branch circuit independent of the air compressor. [2002 NFPA725.13.2.2and5.13.3] 9. Providewaterlevelindicatorforpressuretank.[NFPA227.2.5] 10. Thepressuretankdischargepipemustbeatthebottomofthetank(minimumfourinchpipe withOS&Yvalve).[NFPA227.2.2.1] 11. Dischargepipemustbeminimum6in.fortanksuptoandincluding25,000gallons,8in.for tanks30,000to100,000gallons,and10in.forgreatercapacities.[NFPA2213.2.2.2] 19. Whereahousethatislocatedabovegradewithnolargepitbeneathitisused,itmustbe necessarytoplacetheOS&Ygatevalveintheverticalpartofthetankdischargepipeandto construct a small brick or concrete pit or well to contain the check valve in the horizontal pipebelowthefrostline. [NFPA2214.1.1.3] 20. Wherethevalvepitislocatedbelowgrade,itmustbebuiltofportlandcementconcretewith acleanaggregate.[NFPA2214.1.2.1] 21. Avalvehousethatislocatedabovegrademustbeconstructedofconcrete,brick,cement plaster on metal lath, or other noncombustible material with suitable heatinsulating properties.[NFPA22Table14.1.2.4] 22. Theheating systemmustbeof such capacity that the temperatureof the coldest water in thetankorriser,orboth,ismaintainedatorabove42Fduringthecoldestweather.[NFPA 2215.1.2] 23. Alowwatertemperaturealarmsetat40Fmustbeprovided.[NFPA2215.1.2.2] 24. Thefollowing requirementsshall applyto pressure supervisory signalinitiatingdevices: A pressure tank supervisory signalinitiating device for a pressurized limited water supply, such as a pressure tank, must indicate both high and lowpressure conditions. The off normal signal must be initiated when the required pressure increases or decreases by10 psi.[2002NFPA725.13.2.2] 25. WaterLevelSupervisorySignalInitiatingDevice:Twoseparateanddistinctsignalsmustbe initiated:oneindicatingthattherequiredwaterlevelhasbeenloweredorraised(offnormal) andtheotherindicatingrestoration.[2002NFPA725.13.3.1] 26. A pressure tank signalinitiating device must indicate both high and lowwater level conditions.Theoffnormalsignalmustbeinitiatedwhenthewaterlevelfalls3in.orrises3 in. [2002NFPA725.13.3.2] 27. 28. WaterTemperatureSupervisorySignalInitiatingDevice.Atemperaturesupervisorydevice forawaterstoragecontainerexposedtofreezingconditionsmustinitiatetwoseparateand distinctive signals.One signal must indicate adecrease in water temperature to 40F and theothermustindicateitsrestorationtoabove40F.[2002NFPA725.13.4]
