The founder of Kirloskar group is late LAKSHMAN RAO KASHINATHKIRLOSKAR He was born in 1886 in a village called GULAHASAR in Belgaum district. He had preference for mechanical from his school days and therefore came to Mumbai and completed a course of technical draftsman ship at JJ school of arts. He started business of selling and repairing the bicycles. Visionary founder Laxman Rao Kirloskar He created the first Iron plough for the Indian farmer. His involvement with agriculture led him to make the first pump then the prime movers for the pumps. Late ShriLaxmanrao K. Kirloskar Founder, KirloskarBrothersLTD. The Kirloskar Group of Companies Late ShriLaxmanraoKashinath Kirloskar created the Kirloskar legacy. He pioneered the engineering equipment industry in India, through timeless principles of hard work, determination, and family values. His youngest son, Late Shri Ravi .L. Kirloskar followed in his footsteps when leading Kirloskar Electric Company LTD.

Late Shri Ravi L. Kirloskar Founder, Kirloskar Electric Company Limited Late Shri Ravi .L. Kirloskar was the youngest son of Late ShriLaxmanrao and Late SmtRadhabhai Kirloskar. He began his professional career at Kirloskar Brothers; designing and building India's first electric motor. His knowledge, forward thinking, support, and guidance transformed Kirloskar Electric Company into the world renowned company it is today. Late Shri Ravi .L. Kirloskar was a man who was the epitome of his name. Throughout his time at Kirloskar Electric, he illuminated the company, his colleagues, and employees with his knowledge, intelligence, foresight, and calm demeanour. He was a symbol of immense strength and character to his employees.

All who worked at Kirloskar Electric Company looked up to him as a father, friend, and guide. Quality was always on his mind; and his keen knowledge, foresight, and quality excellence made Kirloskar Electric Company the successful conglomerate it is today. Late Shri Ravi .L. Kirloskar's vision was simple. He wanted Kirloskar Electric Company to be recognized as a symbol of quality, not only in India, but the entire world. Late Shri Ravi .L. Kirloskar had the unique ability to use the past to analyze and interpret the future. He always thought decades ahead in terms of his work and their results. He was the inspiration behind Kirloskar Electric Company introducing the Pie stick Engine and the Thyristor Converter in India. When the invention of the thruster drive gave new life to DC motors in 1964, LateShri Ravi .L. Kirloskar was quick to grasp the opportunity. He began collaboration with Thorn EMI Automation LTD. to give Kirloskar Electric Company a head start in the market. Today, Kirloskar Electric Company controls a large share of the DC motor market. Late Shri Ravi .L. Kirloskar visualized the future of the electrical industry. He regarded quality excellence as one with self respect and pride. He introduced new product lines and set up new manufacturing plants around the country. His efforts helped Kirloskar Electric Company to become the first Indian electrical company to export electrical equipment, and set up the Indo Malaysia Joint Venture Company in Malaysia in 1971. Late Shri Ravi .L. Kirloskar also realized that electronics would play a major role in India's future. He finalized agreements with Electro heating LTD., London, and Thorn Automation LTD. to manufacture drives. His foresight and advice for any situation would always be absolutely right. Kirloskar Electric Company equipment was exported to over 20 countries including U.S.A., U.K., Canada and Australia. Late Shri Ravi .L. Kirloskar wanted the quality of all Indian products to be on par with international standards. His mind was constantly thinking of new and better ideas. He visualized the future of the electrical industry and made his plans accordingly. In 1948, Late Shri Ravi .L. Kirloskar and Late Mr. N.W. Gurjar started the Indian Electrical Association to promote the growth of the industry and to represent it's interests. Late Shri Ravi .L. Kirloskar was closely associated with the Indian Standards Association. He framed the first draft for the ISI Standard 325 for electric motors. His policy was closely associated with the Indian Government's Five Year Plans, especially in the context of electrical industry. It was Late Shri Ravi Kirloskar's efforts that led to the Karnataka Electricity Board setting up three mini-hydro power plants in the state. Late Shri Ravi .L. Kirloskar also founded the Indian Association for Quality and Reliability in 1972.

INDUSRTY PROFILE
Heavy industry in India comprises of heavy engineering industry, machine tool industry, industrial machinery and auto industry. These industries provide goods and services for almost all sectors of the economy, including power, rail and road transport. The machine building industry caters to the requirements of equipment for basic industries such as steel, non-ferrous metals,fertilisers, refineries, petrochemicals, shipping, paper, cement, sugar etc. HEAVY ELECTRICAL INDUSTRY Heavy electrical industry covers power generation, transmission and distribution and utilization equipments. These include turbo generators, boilers, various types of turbines, transformers, switchgears and other allied items. Majority of the products are manufactured by heavy electrical industry in the country. Some major areas where these are used are the multi core projects for power generation including nuclear power stations, petrochemical complexes, chemical plants, integrated steel plants, nonferrous metal units, etc. India is the only developing country besides china which produces a full range of electric power generation and transmission equipment. The industry has been upgrading the existing technology and is now capable of taking up turnkey contracts also for exports markets. Foreign collaborations are allowed with 100 percent FDI. The country is planning to add150000 MW power generations capacities in the next ten years this will generate substantial demand for heavy electrical equipments. The heavy electrical industry is capable of manufacturing transmission and distribution equipment up to 400 KV AC and high voltage DC. The industries has taken up the work of up gradation and transmission to the next higher voltage system of 765 KVfacilities to and have upgraded their manufacturing facilities to supply 765 KV class transformers, reactors, CTS, CVT, bushing, insulators, etc.The investment in R & D by the electrical industry is the largest in the corporate sector in India. Large electrical equipment used in steel plants, petrochemicals complexes and other such heavy industries is also being manufactured in the country. The domestic heavy electrical equipment manufacturers are making use of the developments of the global market with respect to product designs and upgrading of manufacturing and testing facilities. GENERATOR SETS AC generators manufactured in India are on par with international AC Generators and consistently deliver high quality power with high performance. Domestic manufactures are capable of manufacturing AC generator right from 0.5 KVA to 25000 KVA and above with specified voltage rating. TRANSFORMERS The industry has the capacity of manufacture whole range of power and distribution transformers including the REC rating of 25, 53, and 100 KVA and also the extra high voltage range of 400 KV,600 KVA. SWITCHGEAR AND CONTROL GEAR In India, the entire range of circuit breakers from bulk oil, minimum oil, air blast, vacuum to SF6 are manufactured to standard specification for the benefit of customers, the ranges of products produced cover the entire voltage range for 240V to 800KV, switchgear and control gear, MCBs, air circuit breakers, switches, rewire able fuses and HRC fuses with their respective fuse bases, holders and starters. Milestones
1. Consigning India's Contribution to the God Particle Superconducting magnets manufactured by Kirloskar Electric Company in collaboration with ANTEC, Spain, have been used in the Large Hadron Collider, which discovered the God Particle. 2. Indias first satellite tracked AC Generators designed by Kirloskar Electric were used for the tracking system used on India's first satellite. Kirloskar Electric Company also took care of intricate details including transient loading and transient voltage regulation performance. 3. Missile test fired Kirloskar Electric Company played a key role in building the entire power supply unit for perfecting the performance requirement of India's first indigenous built missile. Kirloskar Electric Company's AC Generators were customized for arduous duty. 4. India explores Antarctica India was the first developing country to join the Antarctica explorations. The Antarctic task team carried custom designed AC Generators, developed by Kirloskar Electric Company that worked perfectly in sub zero temperatures. 5. Rajdhani flagged off Indian Railways worked with Kirloskar Electric Company specialists to design reliable AC Generators that would release the heat, dust, smoke and the acceleration of the bogies for proper function, greater speed, comfort, and increased safety.

6. Stealth ship launched On April 18, 2003, India launched its first indigenously designed stealth ship. The ship had four Kirloskar Electric Company 1000kW AC Generators, which were supplied by Kirloskar Electric Company. The generators were a result of Kirloskar Electric Company's close association with the Indian Navy.

Completed Projects Co-Generation


PSG has successfully designed, manufactured, supplied, tested and commissioned couple of challenging projects. Kirloskar Electric Company has executed first co-generation project in Karnataka for Ugar Sugar of 30 MW in the year 2000. Kirloskar Electric Company has also executed such co-generation projects for Prabhulingeshwara Sugar (16 MW) &Varalakshmi Sugar (20 MW ) in Karnataka. Co-Generation: "Combined Generation" by conversion of energy contained in a fuel into two or more usable forms. The role of PSG in Switchyards and Power Distribution PSG has developed expertise in Design, Engineering, Supply, Erection and commissioning of Electrical Switchyard up to 220kV. PSG has successfully commissioned total electric's including switchyard and plant electrification for Toyota Kirloskar, SulzerFlowel, KFIL, NALCO, BFL, Enercon, HeroCycles, DGS& D Port Blair, just to highlight a few valuable clients out of the total list. PSG in association with General Electric Drive System USA had supplied the total electrics & automation package of 2 Million tones per annum to Steel Hot Strip Mill of Essar Steel Ltd., in Gujarat , India .

Steel Industry High temperature exhaust gases are used for better energy recycling. In association with turbine manufacturers cater to the requirements of the power plants and offer complete electric's like generator and associated controls for diesel, small hydel projects, wind power plants and co-generation plants. PSG designed and executed complete electrical system for country's first co-generation plant at TascoCheyyar, 5MW in Tamil Nadu and The Ugar Sugar, 32MW in Karnataka and thereafter developed many co -generation plants.
