Technical overview
V.90 protocol up to 56 Kbps is used when downloading information from Internet Service Providers. V.34 protocol up to 33.6 Kbps is used when uploading information. The 56K PCI Voice Modem requires a sound card in order to take advantage of current features such as speakerphone. The sound card will also be necessary to take advantage of features like video teleconferencing, whiteboarding, and document sharing. Currently the V.90 standard is limited to 53Kbps due to FCC regulatory issues. In order to achieve 56Kbps, the amount of power the modem would have to exert exceeds the telephone line power limits imposed by the FCC. Keep in mind that this affects all modem vendors and OEMs.

Gateway products are available through select retailers.
