There are several types of analyst, each specialising in a field like business, investment, securities or risk. Two common aspects of financial analysis are buying and selling stocks, bonds and other kinds of securities. These individuals also analyse financial data and produce reports for companies to help them maximise the efficiency and profitability of their operations. A college degree in finance, business administration or other related fields is required for this kind of work. Excellent maths and computer skills will make it easier to land a job, as will demonstrated communication skills and a serious work ethic. Finance Analysts guide companies in their decisions in regards to commerce. They sometimes work closely with sales and marketing teams providing recommendations, analysing figures and deciding on particular strategies. Apart of their responsibilities may be to manage finance and accounting teams, overseeing their activities and offering guidance. Finance Analysts are analytical, organized, and through professionals. They have a great aptitude for finance, economics and other mathematical operations. These analysts study to become proficient in any of the following areas: Mergers and acquisitions analysis Investments analysis Budget analysis Money markets analysis Tax analysis Credit analysis Risk and Security analysis Having a Master's or Postgraduate Degree is always helpful. Finance Analysts should also obtain professional certifications such as ACA, CIMA or ACCA.
Purpose of Classification: Performs detailed cost and financial analyses. Develops and interprets detailed cost accounting information and makes recommendations regarding the efficient utilization of resources and the proper accounting for transactions. Exercises discretion and creativity as to work details on assignments of a varied, diverse and difficult nature. Assists in solving complex technical problems in areas where no precedent exists. Distinguishing Characteristics: This is first in a series of three classifications. It is distinguished from the Financial Analyst Senior in that incumbents perform tasks under direction. Assumes some responsibility for specialized, complex or large financial analyses assignments where overall impact is great. Examples of Duties:

Performs specific tasks related to rate development, including identifying cost centers and their related expenses, and calculating recovery rates (e.g., recharge, indirect cost); prepares related reports.

Provides technical assistance in the design of cost accounting or reporting systems and related forms and documents.

Assists with the provision of advisory services to departments with respect to updating billing rates and interpreting cost accounting data; recommends alternative solutions to cost accounting problems.

Performs specialized financial or cost analyses (e.g., cash-flow analysis, "what-if" analysis); prepares related reports (e.g., pro-forma financial statements).

Assists in reviews of financial and internal controls to determine whether such controls are adequate to meet management objectives and ensure the safeguarding of assets; recommends and implements security and system control procedures.

Interviews employees at all levels to analyze policies, work procedures and operational methods.

Performs specific tasks related to reviews of management practices and policies; recommends changes to enhance operating efficiencies. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of cost and financial accounting principles, practices and procedures.

Knowledge of principles and techniques used in conducting management studies, system analyses and financial analyses.

Knowledge of internal control systems and procedures.

Skill in performing complex numerical calculations.

Skill in preparing complex management reports on a timely basis.

Skill in the use of personal computers and related financial and statistical software products.

Skill in both verbal and written communication. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree with a major in Accounting, Finance or related area (or a Bachelor's degree with advanced accounting coursework) AND two years of auditing, cost accounting and/or financial analysis experience; OR, Six years' auditing, cost accounting education with financial analysis experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller/Head of Financial Reporting, the role will provide a range of duties including the following: * Production and maintenance of investor consensus; * Develop and maintain models for key financial data and KPIs; * Regularly review the shareholder register and liaise with brokers to understand key movements; * Assist in the preparation of various company reports to the external market such as the Interim Management Statement, Half Yearly Interim Announcement, Year-end Preliminary Announcement and the Annual Report and Accounts; * Interact with operational management on a regular basis to keep abreast of business developments and how these could impact external shareholder reporting; * Support the Group Finance team in the annual plan and quarterly forecasting process; * Provide commentary and analysis on the performance of the business as a whole and the various

divisions/products; * Establish the weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual data requirements within the Group Finance function and ensure that these are managed and organised to optimum levels; * Develop and monitor management reports and metrics to evaluate performance of a project/division; * Undertake a variety of other ad-hoc data management projects, support and participate in cross-departmental projects.
